2025/26 David Moyes

Where realistically do you think we should be in the table .
And where did you expect us to be in August.
Be honest now.
Our current place in the standings is a little deceptive because in our next slew of matches we play Arsenal ,Liverpool, Chelsea ,Man City, Man United teams that Moyes usually historically doesn't do well against (yes I do realize we beat man United this season, but that could be anomaly as he usually doesn't do well and they've been in outstanding form). So I would say points wise I would of expected that we'd have 5 to six more points than we have now as we've squandered numerous matches against beatable opponents due to his timidness and we need to compensate for our upcoming difficult fixtures. How many do think we are producing from those opponents? I hope he proves me wrong but it's going to be rough

Top 10, rebuilding a solid squad, integrating young potential stars with a solid core, ready to push on next season. Rome wasn't built in a day etc. That's where I'm at, and the majority of the fanbase I would hope.

Edit: I might be in the minority, but I'd rather not qualify for some tin pot Europa league this season? I am skeptical of the amount of investment the owners will put in that is needed into the squad so soon to cope with the fixture list, and would rather see us aim for the FA Cup next season as well as potential higher European honours.

I’d like the Conference league. Shamrock Rovers missed out on the quarter finals on penalties! Could easily manage the squad til quarters / semis. Easier to win than the carabao but much better away trips along the way…

But would you be the first to slate the man when squad depth possibly/inevitably takes it's toll..

I find the whole 'Europe this season' a tricky one to process with certain posters.

It can be pushed out as a positive outlook, when really it's just another Trump in their cards if things don't turn out rosy..

We've only finally got our players back for a league competition ( as already out of cups )

The summer needs to address the obvious spots in the starting 11, whilst also having players leave.

We will be a better team and a better bench, but actual strength in squad depth for 4 competitions.

Not being negative, just question certain posters real reasons behind the europe this season necessity..

Bit paranoid this jeez. I’ve just said I’d love him to be the manager to win a trophy which is why, unlike some, I wouldn’t be against it if we did qualify for the conference league.

I wouldn't class it as paranoia, as that would surely mean i'm concerned about posters reasonings.

I'm just laying out what I take from from certain posters chat and their history of posts.

It's not exactly beyond the realms of possibility that people have a different agenda hidden behind a supposedly optimistic view..

Europe would be a great achievement, but we dont even have a solid starting 11. The window will be/should be, prioritising key areas in that starting 11, not prioritising squad depth.

Each person would love a taste of European football, but maybe not all for the same reason..

If we get Europe we will be more attractive to players.

Without Europe we will still be a relatively hard sell. Not as hard as last summer due to improved league position but Europe would help us improve the quality of our signings.

It’s weird this thread. Supporters who won’t hear any bad word said against Moyes & believe we can’t change him at any point because we will mess it up & get relegated (as though Mosh & Uncle Bill are still running the show) against the polar opposite arguing he should go now highlighting the various deficiencies they see.

The reality is he is doing a very good job to get us to where we are now after the recent seasons issues.
It is also a reality that he isn’t a top elite manager although highly competent & experienced in the premier league.
It also a reality that he isn’t immortal. You can’t wheel him into the changing room in his eighties telling the team to keep it tight 🙂

The question should be at what point it maybe appropriate to change & if that decision is made then who.

Clearly the first pinchpoint is this summer when Moyes probably either needs his contract extending or a new manager appointing. I assume TFG would be giving this some thought, especially in the knowledge that there will be a number of high achieving managers out of contract this summer who potentially won’t be available thereafter.

Considerations could be the extent of TFG’s short/medium term ambitions, where we are at the end of the season, what Moyes may want & if any high profile manager may be interested in joining & what players if any they may attract.

I don’t think posters pointing out his merits or deficiencies is going to be a significant factor so it would seem pointless to continue going around in circles arguing about them, although some people may find it entertaining to do so! 🙂
Is part of the psychology of the lowering of expectations not to take pressure off the players? It seems sound from that perspective. Internally the aim is Europe but don’t overpromise so the players start feeling the heat.
Sure, if they were 9 years old:)

Yeah, I don't like that sort of talk. We often get wins or draws which are unlikely but also drops points when we are expecting a win. I doubt he talks the same way to the players. Best not to watch his press conferences because he does have a certain amount of negative energy. But most managers
Jake, the guy Moyes literally brought in from the cold, isn’t one of his favourites?

If anything, he’s grooming him like Lescott, playing him out wide as part of a longer-term plan.
Grooming just doesnt seem the right word in the Epstein era:)

We don't have an attacking fullback though do we pal? So what do you want him to do?
Well we might, we will never know. I will never forget how pissed Moyes was after the Sunderland game when reporters commented on how well Adzou played in his cameo. Moyes went out of his way to say hes still too small and he didnt have any defensive responsibilities...to me that speaks volumes about Davey. His job as manager is to set the players he has up to succeed, not bemoan their shortcomings...God knows he doesnt take criticism well!

And yet every manager we have had refuses to pick him? Why? Because although we will be marginally better going forward we will be far worse at the back and for a team that doesn't score that many goals that is not a good trade off. It really isn't rocket science.
Well it isnt rocket science to think you might want to strengthen at the position over two windows then...instead he made a big fuss over giving Coleman a new contract so they could hang out in the stands together:))

Bit like a Martinez, Silva or Koeman
Well yeah, if it was 2010
He wasnt my first choice. I'll admit that. But he has done a brilliant job.
Gave us back our club after where it had gone .. does he frustrate at times . Absolutely. But the turn around in 12 months has been fantastic.
I am not a fan of his, mainly because hes a stubborn old Scottish git, but i do like where we are in the league. I also hate how pathetic we have become in our new stadium...every team that comes here plays their best half of football in the first half...that cant just be a coincedence. Win tomorrow or at least play like that is the goal from kickoff will be a great start to the rest of the season.
