2025/26 David Moyes

I watched the press conference to see what got them so riled up and it's the journos bringing the focus to it with their questions to show how much we've kicked on.

He was consistent saying how he had wanted to change the conversation from that to talking about looking to Europe and it seems to be going in that direction.

Politics. People with agendas, either way, will never tell you the whole story. They will never give people who want to believe in something, in the negativity, the context.

Fairly sure it's actually because a lot of other teams have better squads than us but alright.

Squad quality wasn’t the reason we took only 3 points from 18 out of Wolves H Burnley A Leeds A Leeds H, Brentford H, West Ham H,

And went out the cup to Wolves and Sunderland

Not taking advantage of opportunity time and time again this season means our position isn’t as good as it could be even if it’s still a decent position. There’s another opportunity tomorrow night.

This season all of Chelsea, United, Spurs, Liverpool, Newcastle, Brighton, Palace, Forest, Bournemouth are doing worse than they would have expected to have done.

Teams that have done better are Arsenal, Brentford Villa, Sunderland, maybe Fulham.

When so many sides are doing worse than they expected to, it’s an opportunity for other teams to go higher than maybe they’d expected to go. We’ve got that opportunity this season if we can take it. The teams around us are no great shakes and we can play better.

The idea that McNeil is a Moyes favourite is really bizarre. He didn't start a game until Christmas, he got a few games while we were down to the bare bones (and got dragged off at half time in two of them) and was then dropped again, before his sale was sanctioned. People making out like he's a favourite but someone like O'Brien isn't despite him playing almost every game is incredible mental gymnastics.
He played over Dibling when other options were lacking so he became the preferred player , people defending Moyes. I do agree O'Brien is a favorite at RB , there's a hierarchy to Moyes's favorites but it's very predictable

Ah yes sorry was thinking about the first round of fixtures and forgot Villa away. Yes 3 points there. My point stands though that if we want Europe we can’t repeat the first half of the season against these teams. We’ve got to actually land a blow against most of them as they make up half the remaining fixtures. The Villa game was a good start.
I’m not sure there’s many teams in the league who will have taken more the 7 points from those fixtures at this stage in the season though.

For me, it’s the disappointing home results against the other teams which needs rectifying.

Jakey boy - not a right back
Armstrong - not a right winger
KDH - not a number 10

If you have a fully fit team there should not be 3 players shoe horned into positions they are do not usually occupy. It's part of the reason I think that Brighton and Fulham were eye wateringly bad first half performances. Once subs were made and the team was better balanced it improved massively.
Dunno if that matters so much, it more depends on who and for what reason.

A bit of an aside - Myko's best position imo is the LCB of 3CBs. He would be a valuable part of squad and probably starter in any side that plays that way.
As for this season there's maybe only one or two matches you do this. Leeds was one of those matches. Keane and Grealish were out and Aznou could of played left and in front of Myko, Patterson in front and right of Jake.
It was a relatively straightforward response to the threat posed by Leeds. Match em at their strength and win the game where they are weak. The back 5 here switches v quickly to a back four either side of pitch. Done.

Why not back Aznou and Myko to do a job. Why not change tactics, slightly to ensure the upper hand.
Is Moyes too stubborn to seize the day?

I despair at our fan base. Where were we when Moyes took over - every single one of you would have been delighted to be where we are now.

Sure we all want better, but give the guy credit for getting us this far.

To look at perspective, a team 2 points ahead of us in the league spent half a BILLION pounds to regress.

Sure there have been frustrations, but largely this is significantly better than we have been for years.

Baines sticks out easily, Heitinga too. Cba going down the line to check again because last time I did it was too wordy and ignored/made fun of so this is as good as you get :)
Baines was kept out by Lescott who was an absolute beast for us at left back for a period and scored 8 goals that season. Nothing wrong with making new players earn their place. He eventually got in the team and never looked back. We finished 5th that season with 65 points BTW and Baines went on to be one of our best ever players having had a chance to settle in gradually. Heitinga - not sure what you are referring to there.

It’s this exact mindset that stops us ever getting over the line.

We should try and win every game, no matter who the opposition is. Of course we won’t win all of them but if you start publicly separating fixtures into those you are and aren’t expecting to win then you’re already in the wrong mindset as a club.

The past is gone, from the moment of the takeover, we should be in an optimistic mood to get the max possible from the season now. No Europe, most of the teams around us have it, no cup games, we should be saying we’re going all out to try and win every game we play and see where it gets us. Instead we’re playing down expectations (for what purpose?) by talking about getting away from relegation in most interviews and games we’re not expected to win.

Clearly your expectations are being managed quite easily though so I suppose it does work.
I don't think mindset has anything to do with it. Having to fill a bench with goalkeepers and 18 year olds for parts of the season has a far bigger impact.

There is no taking advantage of opportunities. Every single game is a one off event. There are no games that we are supposed to win and supposed to lose. Football doesn't work like that. Wolves we rotated our squad and lost. Sunderland in the cup we were absolutely threadbare. The best teams in the league have dropped points or been close to dropping points against all the teams you have listed above.

That's because Dibling has been extremely poor whenever he has played. So has McNeil. But maybe Moyes favours protecting a younger player.

There is a caveat to this, yes Moyes is Doing a good job . But we also aren’t the club we were 12 months ago. New owners, new board, new recruitment team , new stadium. And 130mil spent in the summer. This isn’t selling all our best players and replacing them with, frees and loans and buying Demarai gray for 2mil.

This is not the same club/team Lampard and dyche managed

Because we are already massively out performing where we should finish based on wages/transfer spend. You think that doing something different will automatically improve results but there is no evidence for that and they are already very good.
