2025/26 David Moyes

Talking about having to win a few games we’re not expected to win in the run in

Needs to knock all that on the head, i get what he’s saying but this is close to Moshiri’s expected losses again. It’s just assuming inferiority before a ball has been kicked.
Yeah, I don't like that sort of talk. We often get wins or draws which are unlikely but also drops points when we are expecting a win. I doubt he talks the same way to the players. Best not to watch his press conferences because he does have a certain amount of negative energy. But most managers do.

Can’t go around as manager of Everton talking about games we’re not expected to win. It’s getting close to Moshiri’s ‘expected losses’. Those expectations don’t end up getting exceeded which is why out of fixtures this season v Liverpool City Chelsea Arsenal Spurs United Newcastle Villa we have scored 1 goal, and took 4 points.
Well he just has. You just would prefer he didn't. There are some games we aren't expected to win, it's a fair statement.

We are in 8th, he IS exceeding expectations.

The 'favourites' thing always amuses me. It's literally his job to have favourites and pick the players he trusts most.
I know right. If we sign a better player he will drop his "favourites" extremely quickly. All of these people should be made to watch that Harry Redknapp/Frank Lampard fan interaction about Scott Canham being a better prospect on an endless loop until they learn the error of their ways.

You sure about that? Wins against Villa and Man U????

We won against both of Villa and United though?

Ah yes sorry was thinking about the first round of fixtures and forgot Villa away. Yes 3 points there. My point stands though that if we want Europe we can’t repeat the first half of the season against these teams. We’ve got to actually land a blow against most of them as they make up half the remaining fixtures. The Villa game was a good start.

Yeah, i get that, the thing is though, we went in to this season thinking Europe would be nice and we would maybe have a shot at it. I don't recall anybody thinking it was the minimum expectation though.

Who in particular are you talking about?
Jakey boy - not a right back
Armstrong - not a right winger
KDH - not a number 10

If you have a fully fit team there should not be 3 players shoe horned into positions they are do not usually occupy. It's part of the reason I think that Brighton and Fulham were eye wateringly bad first half performances. Once subs were made and the team was better balanced it improved massively.

They are not the best players for the position you really think Michael calamity Keane is better than Jake at centerback? His frequent selection of Dwight McNeil has been a detriment to our performances numerous times so maybe he shouldn't pick his favorites?

It’s this exact mindset that stops us ever getting over the line.

We should try and win every game, no matter who the opposition is. Of course we won’t win all of them but if you start publicly separating fixtures into those you are and aren’t expecting to win then you’re already in the wrong mindset as a club.

The past is gone, from the moment of the takeover, we should be in an optimistic mood to get the max possible from the season now. No Europe, most of the teams around us have it, no cup games, we should be saying we’re going all out to try and win every game we play and see where it gets us. Instead we’re playing down expectations (for what purpose?) by talking about getting away from relegation in most interviews and games we’re not expected to win.

Clearly your expectations are being managed quite easily though so I suppose it does work.

Of course it’s not the minimum expectation, but the opportunity is there partly thanks to Moyes raising the standards of the club, but now the opportunity is there I’d like to see us be as bold as possible and go and grab it if we can.
