This is a consequence of over-engagement, not under-engagement. After MH17 and how he tried to kill Skirpal he should have been ostracised then, not led to believe there was nothing he would do that could ever result in facing consequences.

Instead we continued to pretend it was just Vlad, he doesn’t mean it really, what a crazy guy etc etc. If we don’t change our politics the people he’s compromised, or the useful idiots such as yourself, will no doubt pipe up a few weeks / months after this ends and start claiming it’s time we engage with him properly now.

We should treat him as the enemy he is until he, and his regime, are gone. Anyone associated with him, who has taken his money or facilitated his rise (politicians, journalists, lawyers, financial services types) needs to be at best looked at properly and probably removed for now so that they aren’t in a position to help him in the future.

More familiar with US financial stock marlet than global so wouldn’t like to guess on how long Russian stock market will shut it for - New York stock exchange was closed for 4 months in 1914 but in more modern times they have closed it for much shorter times eg 2 days after Sept 11th.

Never traded forex but iirc there isn’t really a centralized market like stocks and trading is done 24hours.

Interesting question! Not really sure. Russian ETFs (trade in U.S) are still tradable. RSX traded 50mn shares on Monday (3x normal volume) and dumped 30%.

Thats just not how it works over there. Oppressed people on a permanent diet of propaganda will not be rising up- you can't think of them like your own country and assign the same values

I think @Kev The Rat is rather misunderstood and getting a lot of flak harshly here. Yes, he may come across as Daveks younger less socially adept brother, but I think he means well at heart. He clearly doesn't want to see dead children or soldiers.
