That said, an expectation of reversal of Trump's position in Cuba (we agree it is awful) in the midst of all else going on nationally and internationally, including a pandemic that gets politicized, is a big ask for a politician.

Certainly I wish it wasn't the case.

This is going off topic but Biden could easily ease sanctions on Cuba. If anything a global pandemic is the perfect excuse to reduce a harsh blockade on a relatively poor nation.

A bit anecdotal but when I was in Cuba last month just chatting to locals and guides, they said things improved for them greatly when Obama was in charge with more money coming in and his visits legitimising them. When Trump got in everything stopped and the cruel attempts to starve them out started again, Biden got in and he has done or changed nothing at all from Trump, according to the locals I spoke to.

The only way this ends is if Ukraine surrenders, and then there won't be a Ukraine anymore anyway.

The sanctions need to be in place just so 'something' is done, but it's all that can be done realistically.
