Conscription in a modern liberal democracy isn't going to happen.

If we ended up at war with Russia, we couldn't cope without it.

There's no easy answers here. We really should be helping more, but we don't have the capability right now to fight back against Russia.

No one is talking about conscription for this. Yet

I don't want anyone to die in an armed conflict. I'd like to avoid it at all costs. But Ukraine is as worthy a cause as anything else in which to lose your life if you have dedicated yourself to a profession where death is a possibility

Was impaled with an iron spike when I was 13, figured bullet would be worse so ruled out the armed forces couple years later at careers week at school... Life is full of lessons.

It's happened in Ukraine. Can easily happen here. Especially when things get bad.

People shouting to go in don't seem to consider that the opponent is one of the most powerful nations on earth.

Re: conscription in the Ukraine, this happens, but my partners cousin should have been called up by now and this hasn't happened. I don't think Ukraine are prepared for this war. Can't see them lasting that long. It'll get very nasty once the main offensive has run its course though.

I agree lots would volunteer, but we would need an enormous amount of troops and resources to fight Russia. I don't know if we have the capability to take on a nuclear power.
