Re: conscription in the Ukraine, this happens, but my partners cousin should have been called up by now and this hasn't happened. I don't think Ukraine are prepared for this war. Can't see them lasting that long. It'll get very nasty once the main offensive has run its course though.

I would imagine they haven't been called up due to how quickly the Russia attack started.

Not sending young men and women to kill or be killed doesn't mean we are just leaving it. There are other tactics which could be used. Sanctions is one of them, I'm pretty sure we will have (or are planning) some covert operations too, maybe even some cyber attacks.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert in international relations or military strategies, but I do know that sending troops in is not the only alternative to doing nothing.

All the chat about how we've armed the Ukraine to the teeth and already their government is calling it's people to form civilian resistance and make Molotov cocktails...

I don't like these kind of requests. It's irresponsible.
Puts kids, women & elderly in danger. Retaliation from these Russians against families is the last thing you want.

I'm a bit disappointed we couldn't do the SWIFT-ban. We promised them so much yet all we deliver is some helmets & flakvests.

There was a stat posted previously, maybe @PhilM can help, showing defence spending across the EU compared to Russia. It was considerably more even without America.

Not to be facetious, but Poland has a larger standing army that the UK and relatively well equipped (Leopard 2s) and they have F16 Falcons.

You also have Czech Republic, Germany and many other NATO and non-NATO nations close by with relatively large and equipped forces.

Now, I'm not saying it's Poland's or their responsibility, far from it, but the point is collectively there's no will to put troops on the ground from Europe.

I don't think we as the UK are doing enough, yet we're not the only one. I think we'll have the same issue with sanctions with lack of consensus and fight.

Only after Stalingrad & fully after Normandy the resistance really started.
