Sell to buy

To the lot of yous that are fuming about this "sell to buy" nonsense, would you rather we keep all of the rubbish players on massive wages and then add more players to increase our squad size even more? Hes not saying we don't have the funds to buy more players, hes saying we can't buy more until we get rid of the dead weight. Our squad is already massive and filled with horrendous players.

The largest squad in the world trophy

I remember Barry Fry had 40+ players at Birmingham City...it was insane.

If we lose 3m per season on a players transfer fee instead of 6m, and save 5m a year on his wages, isn’t that 8m better off per season?

Not if you redistribute the wages with replacements, especially those we will want with a higher quality, if you got a bright shiny young new thing like Lozano its possible rather then established players, perhaps that the route, im not wholly sure we wont be paying some of players leaving wages to enable deals like Rooney, Klassen and Scnedirlin.

They both wont be leaving mate, Jags will be done this season and Baines probably the year after.

Might have to make your peace with that, if you can.
I cant. More to the point though they can poison the well for Silva as they have done others before him. If he has any sense he makes a clean break now.

17 players there though...and you said 10.

Merely highlighting that theres 14 more to bin just oj that quick list and i didnt even include cuco or besic or etc etc
Besic - easy to get rid of.
Cuco - wouldn't be surprised if he stays.

Honestly, perhaps more than 10 will go. But cant see more than 5 or 6 historically deemed first team players being included.
1. Sandro
2. Schneiderlin
3. Besic
4. Williams - subsidized
5.
6.

If we sign a striker (I hope we dont) but links of Arnoutovich and Jose scare me then I think Niasse departs. Again though he is an easy one to move on as he has currency.

Then the harder ones are Klassen/Bolasie/Macca/Mori/Mirallas

Getting rid of Jagielka is more important than dumping Cuco for mine. Dont need him undermining another manager when he gets dropped.

Baines wont last the season even as 2nd choice. He'll either leave in Jan off to the states or retire end of the season.

Jagielka will go this summer if Sheffield United offer some fee for him and Silva says hes 4th choice.

Sigurdsson i think will be gone in Jan when he finds himself behind any of Dowell, Vlasic, Lookman.

I think Brands would sell him in a split second if he could get £30mil+ for him.
I'm looking at the Baines/Jagielka situation as straws in the wind. If Silva gets shut now then I think we have a manager who can cut it here.

The papers sure do love to spin words to create a misleading story. It’s the only way they get bites.

Anyone with a brain cell knows that we have to get rid of 10+ AWFUL players from this squad, but saying it like that doesn’t get the views. The papers sensationalise EVERYTHING. It makes more of a story if it look like we’re skint again, which isn’t the case at all.

Who do you think is going to buy these players? We may save wages, but we're not going to raise much cash.

And in the case of Rooney, I doubt that we have been meeting the entire cost of his wages.

it is not about raising money it is about getting ride of CRAP and reducing the ridiculous wage bill so we can bring in quality.

Farhad has the money. He is not saying he is not prepared to spend he is being cautious and rightly so.

I still believe we will break our transfer budget this summer but we will be targeting quality.

I think Brands has already hinted they’ll be asked to leave. The ‘hard conversations’ and ‘players with prospects’ certainly fit them into that criteria. The two of them have no business being involved in our push to try and get ourselves out of this mess.

I loved Baines and Jagielka for years, but I can’t abide by them taking the piss out of the club thinking they’re worth the contracts they are on.

Mirallas, schneiderlin, besic, williams, Cuco, Sandro, klaasen, Mori, rooney and Robles will be the highest profile ones to leave imo. That’s 10 there and most would be permanent (except maybe klaasen).

Will probably try to shift Bolasie, possibly jags, maybe some of the youth that they don’t want. (Not really youth anymore) Garbutt, Galloway, browning, most likely Pennington. And depends how they see dowell and lookman as well.

Cant see it to be honest, nothing to be made on either really they are here so long they are cost neutral for their contribution. Easy wins would be the likes of Williams, Mirallas, Besic, Niasse, and Mori, maybe Snedierlin and Bolaise but they are trickier as that would be a massive hit. That will be supplemented by the Garbutts, Browning and Galloways of this world maybe even Dowell. Players in there second or third year of a contract and would still command a fee relatively.

Rooney is already a goner. be interesting to see what this Brands lad can do, wasnt overly impressed with him coming out and saying there is a fire sale at Everton, not sure that particularly helps us.

Would have put Baines as the undermining a manager player for me...

Jagielka is just soundbites and softness

Not being rude, but I’m not really sure of your point. Are you suggesting that if we sell Klaasen and use that money to buy another player of higher quality, we are not financially better off therefore there is no gain in doing it?
I’m sure we would both agree that we want higher quality players, but I think it makes perfect sense to offload players to make room in our transfer and wage budgets to facilitate this rather than hold onto them because we may get less than we paid.

I put Baines in the same bracket. Trouble is, we don't have another component LB right now. And finding a component LB to replace him (plus a suitable backup) isn't going to be easy. And despite him losing his legs, is still a good player. Happy for him to begone as well. All be it, I just can't see Baines functioning at all in a high press.

They've both been fantastic players and loyal servants and you love them for it. But we need to move on. Unfortunately it seems neither depart this year.
