Sell to buy

Not quick enough. They should be first out the door.

They both wont be leaving mate, Jags will be done this season and Baines probably the year after.

Might have to make your peace with that, if you can.

Baines wont last the season even as 2nd choice. He'll either leave in Jan off to the states or retire end of the season.

Jagielka will go this summer if Sheffield United offer some fee for him and Silva says hes 4th choice.

Sigurdsson i think will be gone in Jan when he finds himself behind any of Dowell, Vlasic, Lookman.

I think Brands would sell him in a split second if he could get £30mil+ for him.

Take a step back and think what fools bought them in the 1st place and their pedigree...

There should be takers for all of them...theres always someone more stupid in the room.

He wants 38 players + more added.

I think its quite an apt comparison.

Perhaps he is Allardyce

Connolly
Feeney
Joe Williams
Sandro

Theyre the only 4 who are likely to be kept on and loaned out i think.

Sandro may be different under Silva or we could loan him out to a side in Espana who would start him every week.

Maybe you're right Zat and there is some other idiot willing to take them on - I hope you are correct.

However those senior players weren't on the ridiculous salaries that we have afforded them and almost certainly had not been as crap in the 12 months prior to us buying them.

Jags will go if Sheff Utd come in for him for a year, but he will be done the end of this and the club apparently want to give him a send off.

Cant see Baines leaving, hes had ample opportunity, he will probably start the season and be phased out over it - but he will be expecting it.

Just shows what mess we got ourselves into. Of the 23 players above, only 5 were regular 1st team squad players.

Sounds ridiculous, but we could sell 12-15 of those with zero negative impact on the 1st team squad.

BTW, of the above I can only think of Galloway & Sandro who I think could come good.
Niasse I would definitely keep, at least until we sign 2 better strikers.

When we see that list of players the reality of what has happened here is shocking

Sheff Utd are not going to pay Jags the wages he gets paid here, we would end up paying at least half of his wages to get him off the books.

Thats going to be the big issue here, players on huge wages who won't budge but sit it out. Look at Klassen who has said he will stay to fight for his place, he knows no other club will pay him his circa 80k per week.

Snides will be on circa 100k, he might have some suitors in for him.

Bolasie around 90k, he will be hard to shift.

William is injured so no idea when he is back and who would pay him 75k per week??? McCarthy is the same.

Sandro has age on his side but 120k per week is out of reach for the majority of clubs.

We will have to pay hefty sums to these players and agents to move them on.

Selling players won't be as easy as people think. We have some players on big money that might prove difficult to sell. sure, there might be interest from other clubs, but wages might be a problem. This could be a disaster.

I don't think its a secret that the squad is too big, I don't think its a financial sell to buy, like previous years, its just more practical. The problem is that the players we want to sell, i'm not sure there will be people queuing round the block for and it might be that we have to loan them somewhere with an option to buy.

Sell to buy means that.. you take a look at some of the rubbish at the top end of this list and ask why are we playing them wages..

This is a list of players who have played for the first team - in debut order... time to shift quite a few at the top end of this list.. who for one reason or another should be gone.

19 players with first-team standard contracts who we could sell in the blink to an eye.

Rooney, Williams, Bolasie, Schneiderlin, Besic, Sandro, Klaassen, Mirallas, Jags, Martina, Funes, McCarthy [Injury be a problem of course], Garbutt, Joel, Stekelenburg, Tarashaj, Pennington, Browning, Galloway.

Thanks for reading.

I don't have a problem with what he has said. I think the original poster was happy that this has been said and the supporters know where they are!. This reduces the frustration of the supporters, which reduces the pressure on the management team. We all know we are top heavy with wasters

I hope some of the players I haven't heard of are decent...as the majority I have heard of.... aren't

A tad surprised Brands has been so vocal about sell to buy - the desperation to offload players is only going to strengthen the position of any buyer.

Selling players is also inevitable, think it'll be a mistake to delay bringing players in until after we've offloaded some.

We can quite comfortably lose around 18 senior players from the squad (defined as 21 or over) and not effect the first team one bit. That's what they mean I think. Get rid of the numbers, which will cut the wage bill down and allow them to invest in 3-4 top quality players.

Galloway (22), Charsley (21), Hewelt (21), Williams (21), Mathis (20), Renshaw (20), Broadhead (20), Dyson (21), Byrne (21), Browning, Tarashaj, Pennington, Garbutt, Besic & Mirallas are all surely surplus to requirements. That's 15 players right off the bat who are too old for youth football and not likely to be troubling the first team this season. We've already got rid of Henen and Baxter. It's likely that one of Robles or Stek will go, whilst people like Martina and McCarthy are likely to be surplus to requirements as well. Add in the two that have already gone and that's 20 players we can move on before we get to anyone that's made a meaningful contribution to our first team and we'd still have a senior first team squad of 26 players.
