Sell to buy

It's austerity Everton.

The damage that Koeman did is there for all to see. We are now in the first years of an austerity drive to rectify Koemageddon.

If we sell too many players at the same time it would unravel the very fabric of the space- time continuum, and destroy the entire universe.

Got to take that into account.

We can sell one every two days and do a special goodbye reveal video for each one for the twitter.

You're letting Walsh off awfully lightly there Dave......

Both culpable for the mess of a squad we have, only one was allowed to carry on his poor work until this summer.

Everton spent £150m last summer plus a further £40m on players in January for a desperately poor return. Asked whether Moshiri would make similar funds available this summer, Brands replied: “No. First of all we need to offload players to raise money [to spend], and also salary-wise. But it’s not only a money thing. Of course money is important but also, for a coach, it is not workable to start with 38 players in your squad. We have to look for a squad Marco can work with and I think there always has to be space for young players to come to the first team.

“That has to be, let’s say, 25-30 players. Now there are 38 and a lot are not young any more. They are players who have arrived. We have to be honest when we take the decision with these players. Do they have prospects here at Everton? Some of the conversations will not be nice but I think Marco must start with a squad that everyone is eager to play for and has prospects to play.”

Just in case anybody hasnt read the words.

I mean how people can see any fault at all with this is beyond me.
80m purchase price
45m in debts
40m on Agent fees
52m on managers comp
20m on land
280m in player purchases
220m on wages

737m total outlay

160m in player sales
290 in revenue

450m total incomings

287million English pounds
LOL. Look at this feller here trying to polish a turd. Painful to watch.

So frustrating that Williams got injured on international duty.
In an ideal world him, Rooney and Mirallas could’ve been shipped out early which would’ve been a positive start to the window. (They’re the 3 I want gone first due to high wages - Rooney, and ones I can see as being difficult to move on - Williams and Mirallas)

I don't really understand why everyone is looking at 'sell to buy' as meaning we have no money. There would be money to spend regardless but if we want to spend a decent amount of money (again) then we will absolutely have to sell some of the current squad to fund that. Nobody should expect us to be on Man city, Man Utd, Barcelona or Real Madrid levels of spending but we do have a wealthy owner that, if done properly, will allow us to compete.

The money we spent last summer should have left us looking good but unfortunately it was spent so poorly.

People need to stop looking at everything so negatively. Let the club actually do something regarding transfers before we all jump around saying "I TOLD YOU WE HAD NO MONEY LAA"

Buck stops with the manager. Always has and always will in English football.

Not surprising at all.
Don't think we have a problem with finances to buy players, but clearly the wage bill is ridiculous atm.

Have to expect Mirallas and Besic will follow Rooney out at the least.

Would doubt any of last seasons signings will go (bar Sandro) as we would probably make a loss on all. Would expect Moshiri wouldn't be thrilled with that!

In the sense that I think we'll be able to buy players regardless of how many are sold, I agree.

But I don't think we'll have a huge amount to spend without taking sales into account.

For example, I reckon we have a current budget of £20m, plus whatever fees we get for sales. So that's why it's imperative we recoup like £60m in total

Brands confirming today we have to sell to buy

Finally some honesty

Said for years we always have to sell our best players to fund our summer spend and this year we don’t have a big name to get rid of and the truth is now coming out. Hopefully more honesty from the club in future

I’m also excited that he wants to get rid of the big earners who aren’t performing and the dead wood to bring in younger players. We’ve seen it work for spurs and city and even the other half. Let’s go
If Brands was being honest he'd be criticising his old mate Koeman for putting us in a position where it will be sell to buy for years. This is Koeman's mess he left - rubbish players on massive wages brought in for massive fees and it'll hang around our necks like a millstone for years.

Walsh and Koeman both to blame

Walsh brought in decent players pretty cheaply: Lookman, Gueye, Calvert-Lewin. Koeman pursued and brought in Sigurdsson, Keane, Schneiderlin, Bolassie...the expensive flops.

It cant be argued away I'm afraid: Koeman alone has cratered this club financially for years.

I was like a 7 year old was in charge of the transfer policy and squad building at everton. To have 35 plus players in the squad is utter madness. Esp if most are bang average. Cull the lot of them. but to be honest when i see how players like matt pen got a recent contract extension of 3 years i can see why it is happening. There are so many players on that squad who will never never make it as a premier league player. Quality not quanity. Cull. Cull .cull. i have being saying it for last 2 years
