Sell to buy

I believe I read somewhere that Lazio are notoriously hard to negotiate with. Seems mad when Fabinho and Fred are going for £50m. It's such an important position, imagine Reid and Bracewell playing in behind Sigurdsson. How much would they cost today fs!

Hello Sharkey good to see you posting

Neiler, makes some valid points although I don't completely agree on the conclusions.

There is no question that factoring in wages and offsetting amortisation we'll take a financial bath offloading some of the dross we've bought in the last two seasons. He is correct that we are at the mercy of the market, may need 2-3 years not one to complete the clear-out and might even have to sell some players we'd rather keep and get stuck with some dross we'd rather offload. Overall I estimate the £150m that Moshiri has put in is reduced to something like £60-75m realisable value that can potentially be reinvested.

However, as our squad is far too big and that original investment was so unwisely squandered it should be possible to absorb that economic loss to the owner and hence the club without automatically damaging our ability to compete as a team. We should be capable of performing to/above last year's level with a smaller squad and budget if Brands and Silva perform well and reinvest what they can wisely.

Where it really hurts us in restricting our ability to kick-on from there. We've effectively wasted the one-off turbo boost from Moshiri so we now have to progress the old-fashioned way by developing both the team and the commercial business hand-in-hand. It is hard to have confidence in our Board to deliver that unless Brands can give them a huge helping hand by creating a genuine top 6 level squad on a break-even budget over the next 3 years.

Whilst I agree that there has to be a clear out of the deadwood, and there will be, the way the transfer window is structured this year just makes everything a bit more difficult.

If the players have to go BEFORE new players are signed the window is about face for our requirements, closing much earlier than usual (with a world cup taking up 4(?) weeks) and then another couple of months where sales (outside the PL) are allowed.

Need Moshiri to front the cash on the basis the sales will follow to ensure we get the players we want imo. Hopefully his statement about there being no money worries under him prove to be true

If you have three years of repayments on the 10k car. Youve lost 15k overall. Youve spent 30k to inevitably end up with a car worth 20k.

Everton may need to that with the majority of their players out (old car) in (New car). We may need to do that that 10 times so the overall loss to buisness and impact on cashflow could impact on what type of car we could buy.
But if I get 5k back from selling my old car, I have only spent 25k to get a car worth 20k. Far from ideal, but better than spending 30k, along with running costs for 2 cars instead of 1.

I don't think there's anything else the club can say publicly, it's obvious that we've made some bad buys but their not necessarily bad players, they just don't work as a team and for that Koeman and Walsh should shoulder the blame. Brands and Silva have to clear out and can hardly tell the world we have money to burn, but I still think there will be investment, otherwise you'd have to question Brands judgement in joining Everton in the first place.

Scandalous the money that Walsh wasted.

If that money was spent well it could have set this club up for the next 3-4 seasons, having the nucleus of a squad like Spurs have had the last 3 seasons that pushed on every season.

Brands has come into the club 2 years to late, instead of recruiting players he's going to be wasting time getting rid of the garbage at the club, especially around a summer of the WC,which is the biggest shop window in football.

Turnover doesn't bring a lot of confidence as the top 6 are all going to be over £400 million in the next results and we are going to be stuck around 200 million plus behind, and the financial gap is going to be so big we will never catch up,and i'd be shocked to see what the wages to turnover % is after the terrible splurging of Walsh.

Was Moshiri really an accountant because i dispute that claim seeing the money wasted the last 18 months.

For the record, I do want Klaassen to stay as I believe as a player who wants to stay and fight for his place he should be given opportunity.

Anyways,

The way you need to look at Klaassen is 24/5 = 4.8m a year in amortisation. This does not include things such as agents fees. So his current accounting value is around 19m. If we sell him for 12m, we make a 7m loss and this hinders us buying other players due to FFP.

The wages model is the sustainability issue. We are paying him a far greater wage, than anybody else would. Hence we would be potentially paying 50-60k a week to a player who isn't even ours.
I’m no accountant or expert on ffp, but surely 12m income is better for the books this year than a 4.8m amortisation? And wouldn’t any incoming fee also be spread over 5 years, meaning an accounting loss of 2.4m per year over 4 years, and a profit of 2.4 in the fifth year?

Savic is, in all fairness, really only best suited to one system - and that's a 4-3-3/the 3-5-1-1 that Lazio play. A bit like how Pogba is at his best in a 4-3-3 as well. Basically he needs to be in a three-man midfield.

He's a great talent, but you have to build the team around him.
Savic for 50 no chance,it will be around 75 million.

Lazio want big money for him and you really think he would come to us,he will have a host of CL calibre clubs after him if the price is reasonable.

I can see him being the Pogba replacement when United eventually sell that overrated fraud.

Anyone with any sense knows we need to sell a ton of players. For every one coming in at least 2 need the boot. We need the squad down to no more than 30.

Hurry up and get them all out to frig Marcel.

It’s good that you have faith but you thought with your heart over your head. I and many others saw it coming.

If you look at the fact we’ve just given Pennington a new three year deal that tells me we lack money to replace and improve on him and we are once again trying to patch holes the cheap way. He’s not good enough and if there was cash he’d be sold and we’d have brought in better

Hang on, which is it? We're selling because we're skint, or we're selling because the players are not good enough and to replace them?

Make your mind up!

No, I don't think he would mate - my posts were in response to a poster who had mentioned him as an example
