Sell to buy

  • Niasse. If we were to get the likes of Bas Dost, we could sell Niasse for £15m. I like him, he just isnt a good footballer who's stock is high after some impressive goal poaching last season.

Bas Dost is not a good footballer either.

Like Niasse though he is effective.

If you sell at a loss, it restricts who you can buy due to FFP.
Ok, still doesn’t make sense to me. Wouldn’t his purchase price have already been offset against other income, or did we fall foul of ffp last season?
I’m not trying to be argumentative, my brain just can’t understand how we can better off financially keeping a player and paying his wages, than selling him and not paying his wages

Moshiri went for Brands originally (ie. 2 years ago) but he wasn't available, so he got Walsh instead. He knew what he wanted.

Accountants don't waste money, they count it.

Unbelievable how many captains of industry on here queue up to criticise someone who has dug this club out of a dark, dark place.
I remember him clamouring for Monchi which was a long long long shot at best.

I can't recall Brands being mentioned.

He hired Walsh because Leicester won the title on the cheap which would have impressed someone from the field Moshiri came from.

I`d imagine that by now Silva and Brands have already made a hit list and the players on it will undoubtedly be aware, as will their agents.

Only speculation, but maybe Brands has given the nod to those players to start looking for another club, before he makes it official ?.

Thought he was our best player before his injury, id like to see him stay with a full preseason under his belt, think he struggled for fitness when he returned.

Bolasie is just awful. Always has been, always will be.

These would be my players to sell:
  • Williams - for anything. I reckon a promoted team or a Brighton/Villa/Stoke might take a punt at £1m. Villa could replace a slow, finished John Terry with an even-slower and even-more finished Williams. £1m.
  • Mirallas - think his value has plummeted to around £5m. Such a shame, but he has to go I think.
  • Bolasie - Surely someone like Palace would take him for £15m.
  • Schneiderlin - considering we turned down £22m from West ham in Jan, we should be looking at £25m for him.
  • Rooney - not sure about this reported £12m fee (amazing if true) but getting him off the wage bill is worth giving him away.
  • Martina - League 2 player on £35k a week. I think we are stuck with him for another 2 years. Absolute dog of a player, anyone that would take him to get him off wage bill would be marvellous.
  • Besic - stock is higher after impressive loan spell. Could easily get £10m for him
  • Klassan - If we could get £15m for him we would be doing well. More likely to go out on loan. Will not fit into a Silva system. It is unfortunate that Napoli have changed manager as they wanted him in January.
  • Niasse. If we were to get the likes of Bas Dost, we could sell Niasse for £15m. I like him, he just isnt a good footballer who's stock is high after some impressive goal poaching last season.
That's almost £100m and barely weakens our squad at all. I would keep Mori (but buy a new starting centre-half), Sandro (worth another shot under Silva), McCarthy, Vlasic and Lookman (who both should thrive under Silva).

My punts on new players
  • Ricardo Rodriquez. Apparently available for £15m from Inter. Would solve the LB issue.
  • Hirving Lozano. Has stated he would be willing to speak with Brands if asked. Clear signal he would come. Would love this one confirmed before the WC incase he has a stormer. £22m was mentioned, will probably be more.
  • Johnny Evans. Reported £3m release clause. We should be all over that.
  • Bas Dost. Available for a knock-down fee from Sporting.
  • Star centre-midfielder. This could be the real statement of intent. Not sure of who, but maybe someone like that Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio for about £50m.
Pure football manager/FIFA stuff here, but 9 outs and 5 ins with minimal net-spend if any, and a reduced wage bill!!!

Just on the Milinkovic-Savic comment, i noticed that others have commented on the £75mil-90mil value which may be more realistic.

I think Brands will be aiming for players like him but before they move to clubs like Lazio.

For any marquee type signing i would prefer we went for Sessegnon, Upamecano or similar types who whilst they are clearly going to become top class they would benefit from first team football with us.

The chap you highlighted would be a starter anywhere.

This is all part of Marcel's Grand Scheme

Manuel Pellegrini: Good day Marcel, I hear you want to sell a few players and wanted to offer you £10 million for Schneiderlin.
Marcel Brands: Oh hi Manuel, oh that was just the usual press conference guff, you know what it's like.
MP: Ah yes yes I see.... £20 million then?
MB: That's not a bad offer matey, but you know I wanted Marco to settle in with the players a bit first before we start selling really.
MP: Of course, of course, but maybe you would accept £25 million?
MB: Starting to tempt me old pal! Still, the funny thing is that since that presser I've had all sorts of fellas ringing up, you'd be surprised at a couple of the clubs who are interested in Morgan.
MP: £30 million, not a penny more.
MB: evil laugh He's packing his bags now.

Savic came from the same club that produced De Bruyne Courtois Benteke Koulibaly Carrasco Origi Ndidi and Leon Bailey who's the next superstar winger in waiting.

Genk have academy to rival Barcelona,Real Madrid and Sporting Lisbon.

if you look at what Brands said he said he was first approached 2 years but had give his word to PSV

it is not about raising money it is about getting ride of CRAP and reducing the ridiculous wage bill so we can bring in quality.

Farhad has the money. He is not saying he is not prepared to spend he is being cautious and rightly so.

I still believe we will break our transfer budget this summer but we will be targeting quality.

I understand that. But who will be prepared to buy these CRAP players and pay their ridiculous wages?

We may be stuck with some of them - and that will limit the money available to pay new players.

IMO players who cannot cut it need to go you cannot run a sucessful team with passengers not adding value , keep players whom Silva and Brands believe fit into their plans and re invest cautiously were we can with quality

Silva and Brands taking control has resulted in a sense of optimism that needs to be enhanced throughout the club , particular the young players , hopefully resulting in a sucessful campaign next season

Baxendale CEO and Ryazantsev - Finance these positions are also critical to ensure the past disastrous Business decisions are not repeated

I realise as Evertonians long for trophies long overdue but we need to be mindful the recent crazy spending on dross , other inept decision making at Board level could take longer than we would like to get sorted

I look lessons that can be learned from two clubs who arguably are similar in size whom are struggling to put it mildly Villa who are clinging for survival as a club , Leeds who go thru Managers like hot cakes and have not seen the PL for 14 years

No, I hear ya.

Essentially - no the purchase price from a FFP is not offset against other income. If you buy Klaassen for 24m, it is amortised over the contract period. If you sell him for less than what his purchase price is worth at that date (cost less amortised amount). Perhaps this wouldn't affect Everton financially, but would effect how much we are allowed to spend. There are restrictions when you make losses on players.

Financially we are restrained if we sell Klaassen and continue to pay wages. The likelihood is we would end up paying 50% of his wages. So essentially the question must be asked. Does selling Klaassen actually help us buy new players / prevent us buying new players? If so - therefore should he be kept on the premises that he wants to be at the club anyways & should be given a go in the first team.

Hope I finally exampled it.
