Sell to buy

I wouldn't mind going back to the sell to buy set up. It means we won't be so quick to part ways with tens of millions of pounds on dross.

Schneiderlin will go for money. Bolasie too.

We will notice the loss of neither.

Squad needs a cull let’s be honest. If that brings about financial improvements and therefore greater clout going forward then great.

These would be my players to sell:
  • Williams - for anything. I reckon a promoted team or a Brighton/Villa/Stoke might take a punt at £1m. Villa could replace a slow, finished John Terry with an even-slower and even-more finished Williams. £1m.
  • Mirallas - think his value has plummeted to around £5m. Such a shame, but he has to go I think.
  • Bolasie - Surely someone like Palace would take him for £15m.
  • Schneiderlin - considering we turned down £22m from West ham in Jan, we should be looking at £25m for him.
  • Rooney - not sure about this reported £12m fee (amazing if true) but getting him off the wage bill is worth giving him away.
  • Martina - League 2 player on £35k a week. I think we are stuck with him for another 2 years. Absolute dog of a player, anyone that would take him to get him off wage bill would be marvellous.
  • Besic - stock is higher after impressive loan spell. Could easily get £10m for him
  • Klassan - If we could get £15m for him we would be doing well. More likely to go out on loan. Will not fit into a Silva system. It is unfortunate that Napoli have changed manager as they wanted him in January.
  • Niasse. If we were to get the likes of Bas Dost, we could sell Niasse for £15m. I like him, he just isnt a good footballer who's stock is high after some impressive goal poaching last season.
That's almost £100m and barely weakens our squad at all. I would keep Mori (but buy a new starting centre-half), Sandro (worth another shot under Silva), McCarthy, Vlasic and Lookman (who both should thrive under Silva).

My punts on new players
  • Ricardo Rodriquez. Apparently available for £15m from Inter. Would solve the LB issue.
  • Hirving Lozano. Has stated he would be willing to speak with Brands if asked. Clear signal he would come. Would love this one confirmed before the WC incase he has a stormer. £22m was mentioned, will probably be more.
  • Johnny Evans. Reported £3m release clause. We should be all over that.
  • Bas Dost. Available for a knock-down fee from Sporting.
  • Star centre-midfielder. This could be the real statement of intent. Not sure of who, but maybe someone like that Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio for about £50m.
Pure football manager/FIFA stuff here, but 9 outs and 5 ins with minimal net-spend if any, and a reduced wage bill!!!

I'd be shocked if we managed to get more than 70m for that lot

I’m no accountant or expert on ffp, but surely 12m income is better for the books this year than a 4.8m amortisation? And wouldn’t any incoming fee also be spread over 5 years, meaning an accounting loss of 2.4m per year over 4 years, and a profit of 2.4 in the fifth year?
If you sell at a loss, it restricts who you can buy due to FFP.

I dont think anyones bothered about selling players the more gone the better. I think people are more bothered by the statement itself sounding rather negative.

I would have liked a managed response in the terms of "we won't be spending the amounts we did last year but funds are available although as a club we must ensure we look to trim the squad and reduce the wage bill and bring in funds from players who do not have a future at the club"

Hopefully that was what Brands was eluding to but im concerned by the tone of the statement.

Scandalous the money that Walsh wasted.

If that money was spent well it could have set this club up for the next 3-4 seasons, having the nucleus of a squad like Spurs have had the last 3 seasons that pushed on every season.

Brands has come into the club 2 years to late, instead of recruiting players he's going to be wasting time getting rid of the garbage at the club, especially around a summer of the WC,which is the biggest shop window in football.

Turnover doesn't bring a lot of confidence as the top 6 are all going to be over £400 million in the next results and we are going to be stuck around 200 million plus behind, and the financial gap is going to be so big we will never catch up,and i'd be shocked to see what the wages to turnover % is after the terrible splurging of Walsh.

Was Moshiri really an accountant because i dispute that claim seeing the money wasted the last 18 months.

Moshiri went for Brands originally (ie. 2 years ago) but he wasn't available, so he got Walsh instead. He knew what he wanted.

Accountants don't waste money, they count it.

Unbelievable how many captains of industry on here queue up to criticise someone who has dug this club out of a dark, dark place.

Cant see it to be honest, nothing to be made on either really they are here so long they are cost neutral for their contribution. Easy wins would be the likes of Williams, Mirallas, Besic, Niasse, and Mori, maybe Snedierlin and Bolaise but they are trickier as that would be a massive hit. That will be supplemented by the Garbutts, Browning and Galloways of this world maybe even Dowell. Players in there second or third year of a contract and would still command a fee relatively.

Rooney is already a goner. be interesting to see what this Brands lad can do, wasnt overly impressed with him coming out and saying there is a fire sale at Everton, not sure that particularly helps us.
Their association with past failure and their history of folding and going missing when we need leaders just on its own necessitates we sweep those two out of the club.

We need a new start, a clean page.

Who cares? As long as we sell off our deadwood and manage to replace them with actual talent, I couldn't care less what our net spend is.

Yeah this, we have had years of penny pinching. Now we are finally in a position to flash some cash everyone seems to want to worry about resale value and net spend.

Just get it spent.
