How so?

The squad did not have a striker of note to speak of and we had a load of players who had been staples of the first team coming to the end of their careers.

Koeman inherited players worth millions in Lukaku, Stones, Barkley (I know Barkley was there when Martinez arrived but he was nowhere near the same level).
He inherited Dads Army. One of the oldest first teams we've had and it needed gutting...not to mention needing to learn how to retain the ball and pass it less than 20 yards...to a team mate.

Have you ever been in a heated discussion irl and wished you had a pie chart at hand to show your opponent how wrong he is in a clear visual format? I'm thinking of an app that does just that. With a simple click, all the complex information you tried to communicate to your befuddled friend will be aggregated into clear, understandable slices. It will be called PIE-RGHT because the last vowel has to be removed for some reason, you can PM me for great investment opportunities.
Sounds like a brilliant idea.

Well, it may sound fairly simplistic but Martinez inherited a team that had just had a "good" season and finished 6th and hadn't been outside the top 10 for the past 8 or 9 seasons (2005/06?)

Koeman inherited a team that had just had two woeful seasons and finished outside the top 10 two seasons on the spin.

Martinez was also allowed to build on what was there - Koeman consolidated, Everton were in a league of their own and he looked/needed to overhaul the side - a different setup/ambition called for it.

Some are forgetting just how bad Martinez was. That Anfield 4-0, that Sunderland 3-0...

There was plenty more instances of sheer embarrassment under Martinez than Koeman but Martinez was a much more likable man and that goes a long way...

The positions they had finished in in the past dont really matter though as all the players who finished in those positions (Osman, Hibbert, Distin, Howard, even Jagielka and Baines) were getting past the point of being any use to us. Cahill had also gone of course and we were left with Anichebe and a broken Jelavic as our only strikers.

Nobody is forgetting how bad Martinez was at times, but that is not really relevant to what you are saying anyway. There were plenty of rubbish games under Moyes too, as there was Koeman.

Personally I think the stuff put out this season has been just as embarrassing as anything under Martinez (But still not as bad as being beat 7-0 by Arsenal for example).

I don't think the team Koeman took over needed a massive overhaul to be honest. It needed changes that's obvious.

Like Kone, Alcaraz, Funes Mori, Cleverley, Niasse, Atsu, McGeady and Besic

Kone and Nissae just there to get goals (not good at that)

Alcaraz was technically sound, just a horrible horrible defender. His only attribute was composure on the ball.

McGeady, Besic, Atsu, Cleverly are technically sound. Just lacking in end product or anything worthwhile offensively

But they all can play possession football and pass the ball, which was the point I made. Actually doing anything productive with the ball is another matter.

Funes Mori...I'll give you that.

And none of them cost £24mill or £45mill either

Have to disagree with that like.

Brilliant first season from roberto and then pre season second year i was dumb founded by his change of style of play. stubborn and got the sack. Koeman lost the plot recently and was stubborn. Refused to adapt. Deserved to be sacked. Koeman didnt get everton.
