Well they might as well now that we've told them we won't use our military. Putin is walking all over the west at the moment......

Can you blame him? We have a president who doesn't understand even the basics of foreign policy. Obama has shown himself to be weak and inexperienced in this arena and worse, it appears that he's surrounded himself with others who are weak an inexperienced in these matters.

Welcomed onto the streets by certain parts of Ukraine that speak Russian. Have a look on the Telly mate, the majority of Ukrainians are demonstrating against Putin and want him out their country.

I'm sure that according to some on here, those are "right wing" news outlets and therefore can't be trusted.

Hope not but if the Russian military "machine" is nothing like it was during the old Soviet days. Ukraine's is in poor shape but Russia's isn't a whole lot better by today's standards. Russia's is still much stronger than anything Ukraine could muster. I think I read somewhere that the average pay for a Ukrainian soldier is less the average pay for a worker in that country. Not a great incentive for a career in the military is it?

Much recent comment on Ukraine in the British press has been marked by a barely forgivable ignorance about its history and politics, an overhasty willingness to put the blame for all its troubles on Vladimir Putin, and an almost total inability to suggest practical ways of bringing effective Western influence to bear on a solution.

It was at this point I stopped reading.

So who should be blamed for Russia sending armed troops into Ukraine? Ukraine? The West? Israel? (that's always a good one). Is someone really trying to justify Russia's actions here? Because I seem to be reading some of that here too.

Afree 100% Mate, simple fact is the EU receives approximately one third of its supply of Oil and natural gas from Russia, the vast majority of it coming through the Ukraine pipelines, for some countries that percentage is a lot higher (Germany for example), Germany being by far the most powerful voice in Europe presently isn't going to let the crisis get to the stage where sanctions become imposed as it will be reciprocal and quite likely start a economic crisis again across europe due to the damage on stock markets and the effect of a renewed fuel crisis across mainland europe/uk.

Its a mess, one worsened by the involvement of the west which will only galvanize the Russian determination to look strong, and sadly the actual people seem to be getting completely forgotten about by all parties, then again that's always the way of the world, the rich take care of themselves and sod the average joe

If I had a nickel for everytime I read this on GOT, I'd have enough to buy Everton five times over.
