Anything to remain European (and progressive). So it would appear.
Reminds me of a cryptic clue I wrote this morning for a crossword destined for the FT.The Tory Party must feel dazed and confused now. The shock and awe of Cummings and his puppet man-child has had the effect of completely disorienting them as a political force.
I think Corbyn's instinct is to get out there and fight this lot now while they're staggering about and disillusioned. The rest of the opposition parties and his own back benches though are more concerned with taking no deal off the table.
Spectacular lol lol lol lolI think for certain nobody can predict with any degree of accuracy economic forecasts at this point, we can't say we'll be poorer if we remain or leave right now.
I can give you the most important benefit, freedom. Day to day being inside the EU is like being inside a mental prison where there are no visible bars, but we're being held back, when we leave the EU the sky will be more blue, the trees more green my life will be so much happier.
We should be proud of this country, throughout history we've seen the men and women, who have been loyal and sacrificed everything for this land so we might be free.
Having Brexit is the most important thing in my life, I honestly don't care if we're poorer or richer, we need to be free. Even if it resulted in me becoming sick and there being no medicine, even if it resulted in me living in the street.
It is a sacrifice we have to make, like the men in the Somme.
Think about our proud history and believe in this country.
Not just the press but in here too. Here's excerpts from a conversation I had with Bruce a couple of weeks ago about this very thing. He was trying to make out that no deal would create mayhem for all the EU nationals resident in the UK, but it won't. But what makes it worse is that Bruce would have known this as his own wife has registered under the scheme.great post, i've never heard of this...maybe the pro-Remain media are not promoting it, preferring to have non-Brit folk fear they'll be thrown out after 31 Oct. Connie Huq and that Portugese lady losing their minds in interviews seems to confirm this.
Insidious propaganda if so.
Of course, it's 'possible' that things will be fine. I mean it's possible that the 2.5 million or so EU citizens who had not yet applied for settled status will have successfully done so by October 31st, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't manage to and an enormous headache is created by this government. The Tories playing chicken is all well and good, but a lot of people are going to become collateral damage of their recklessness, which is the opposite of good governance imo.
Don't they still have up until December 2020 to apply for settled status, even if we leave with no deal.? Even so, people have had the opportunity to apply for settled status, either on line or by post, since April this year, and at no cost to themselves. So even if the deadline was 31st October (which I don't believe it is as I said) you can't blame the UK government if some people couldn't be arsed to apply. That's like me blaming Everton if I was late renewing my season ticket and somebody else got my seat.
I'm no lover of a no deal Brexit as I've said countless times in here and I fully expect some form of economic downturn and disruption to our daily lives, and yes some people will sadly lose their jobs. But the reason that I pulled you up on that earlier post was that you, along with many other remain supporters on here, pick up on every single process of Brexit and assume that the worst will happen. It's no surprise that so many Brexiteers hide behind the Project Fear banner.
The confusion was directly caused by Priti Patel saying quite clearly that free movement would end on October 31st, so many have taken that to mean that those who don't have settled status have had the rug pulled from under them. Given the Windrush debacle it wouldn't be the first time, and I doubt anyone really knows what the true state of affairs is. Johnson is a serial liar, so I don't really think his word has any value whatsoever.
The terms of the Settled Status scheme are quite clear, including what would happen in the event of a no deal, but then I expect you would already know that given your own personal circumstances.
Anybody already living and working in the UK come 31 October would not be affected by Patel's plans. Only those who seek to come here for work afterwards. Granted, it is a hardening of the position held by the former minister who I think was planning a more pragmatic approach with a lead in period. In that regard I think this is just her posturing/trying to impress Boris given that we have no immigration policy in place yet. Wouldn't one need to be processed through Parliament anyway?
I don't put any faith in the government's word to be honest with you, but yes, as my wife has settled status (although her document does say it is thus unless there is a change in government policy), we are hopefully okay. The remaining 2 million however, goodness only knows. It's this stark situation that is prompting so many to liken no deal to a cliff edge, as so many things change in such a huge way, and the government have done so little to prepare for it. That should worry leave and remain alike as aside from partisan differences, I'm sure most people want this process to go as smoothly as possible.
Subject to change in Govt policy. Really?
I read somewhere that they tested the system on 30,000 guinea pigs (no offense to the missus) before opening it up to the general public in April. Maybe she was one of these.
I expect your not allowed anything sharp.I think for certain nobody can predict with any degree of accuracy economic forecasts at this point, we can't say we'll be poorer if we remain or leave right now.

If you actually believe any of that is true, you probably should be put in that mental prison you mentioned....the ones with bars and padded walls.I think for certain nobody can predict with any degree of accuracy economic forecasts at this point, we can't say we'll be poorer if we remain or leave right now.

Nobody over the age of 65 has any business voting on such a long term strategic decision. They should abstain and then shuffle off into an armchair.

@Bruce Wayne surely thats enough for a ban.
That much was obvious mate. I don't think anyone here thinks of Johnson as a responsible adult. In fairness though, I'm not seeing many responsible adults sitting in the HOC right now on any side so you'll have to forgive me if I take umbrage at the idea of being told to sit and wait like a child while the supposed "adults" who have disgraced and shamed this country with their behaviour both in and out of the HOC (all at the taxpayer's expense!) decide if we deserve as say or not.Well, I certainly dont mean the monster man-child.
Posts like this should be treated in the same way as racist, homophobic, etc.
Whilst we are alive we should be able to vote on issues that will affect our lives.
What next? Huxley's "Brave New World" solution? Be careful Charlie.

It's the problem we have in this country/ Remainers all paint the worst possible picture of a no deal which in turn leads to leavers brandishing it project fear. Polarisation is what is destroying the country.
