Having lived in the US for over 20 years I’m skeptical there is a vast, untapped market for haggis...

Didn't they make an agreement two years ago for this to happen minus the haggis of course haha. It was supposed to start January off last year.

It was all over the press at the time too as it was the first time in 20 years.

Without speaking on behalf of the other mods, I'd rather people were able to be at least a little bit grown up when using this bit of the forum. We're not here to mediate squabbles, and you wouldn't expect other people to do so were you having this discussion in a physical ale house rather than a virtual one.

If your views appear to be offending people, then that's perhaps a sign that you need to rein them back in, and likewise, if you're reading views that are offending you, then the ignore feature is just what you need.

Indeed, but I was tagged and asked about the report button, and all I did was answer without either dragging someone else into the reply or referring directly to someone else or indeed offending anyone, or am I missing something ....

I'm afraid I don't believe a word Johnson and this government say. He lies pretty much every day. I'm sorry if the anti-migrant rhetoric of the Tory government over the last decade coupled with the current administration has left us feeling decidedly uneasy about our future, but that's how we feel. I hope you're never placed in a similar situation. Suffice to say, it's not something we're doing in order to score Internet points.

We've had a situation whereby those who try and tell the truth have had doubt poured upon them under the guise of 'project fear', so I'm afraid when you have a government who deliberately try and lie and mislead then you reap what you sow in terms of the faith people have in their word, not least when they've pledged numerous times in the past fortnight to overrule the law if it meant they could leave with no deal.

There is a system in place for EU nationals to register for leave to remain and that will still be there in the event of a no deal Brexit. There has never been any government announcement that they intend to change this and neither have I seen any speculation, even from the Remain bias papers, that this could be a possibility.

Just over a week ago you made a post that 2.5m EU nationals are worried about their residency status in the event of no deal Brexit on 31st October. Why did you say this given that you know, and indeed they will also know by now, that they will still have another 14 months to register even if we do crash out with no deal. If people in fact are so concerned why don't they just register for gods sake. It's been open for over 5 months now, and I've not seen any stories to say there are any issues with the system. If there were any out there you can guarantee you or Summers would have linked it in here by now.

I'm not being serious you clown!

I do think it's worth highlighting the fact that one segment of the population voted massively Leave - to weaken the economy and lessen freeedoms - at the material expense ot another segment of the population (14 to 18 year olds) that didnt get a vote but now have their whole lives impacted. That cannot be right.

It's a moot point whether those 65+ are still active economically and/or should retire from political life.

I hate this argument.

I was 21 at the time of the referendum.

I didn't get to vote in Tony Blair becoming PM for a second term, or for Cameron becoming PM (the start of austerity etc) in 2011. That directly impacted my future too. I'm not sure which government brought in the rising Tuition fees that meant I was in the first year of students that would have to pay £9,000 per-year for uni, compared to £2-3k for every year previous. But I didn't get a say in it. The first election I got a say in was 2015, and I voted Labour.

The voting age is 18, and always has been. The argument from remain's side that it should have been lowered is purely because leave edged it. It wouldn't have been made the other way round.

The MPs are to blame for this mess - on both sides. Remain's campaign was just as atrocious as Leave's. If it wasn't, they might have got the majority they arrogantly thought was secure.

It doesn't benefit remainers to highlight anything positive, Fred

This story about the French chefs made it into US media so I’m honestly a bit surprised that you haven’t seen anything about it.

I don't expect them to highlight anything positive. But neither do I expect them to post something as fact when it is based on nothing more than an unsubstantiated point of view. I mean it's exactly what they accuse leavers of except they call it "lies".

Sad isn’t it.....

I've seen a few people having issues with this and I haven't been particularly looking for it.

That much was obvious mate. I don't think anyone here thinks of Johnson as a responsible adult. In fairness though, I'm not seeing many responsible adults sitting in the HOC right now on any side so you'll have to forgive me if I take umbrage at the idea of being told to sit and wait like a child while the supposed "adults" who have disgraced and shamed this country with their behaviour both in and out of the HOC (all at the taxpayer's expense!) decide if we deserve as say or not.
There are responsible people there; they've just been sidelined in their attempt to get a sensible trade deal and guarantee continued peace in N.I.
