Been doing some moonligthing back at my old job over the last few weeks.

Out of interest, I asked one of my friends – her and her husband are Polish – how they had to register because I genuinely had no clue.

She said they had to fill in a form and pay around £80 per-person, and send it off. They did that when they first got the forms through. They were then refunded the £160 as it got changed so that it was free (which is right, I thought it was mental that they had to pay to fill in a form).

Anyway, she said that was all they'd had to do but then wasn't 100% sure if they'd have to do the same process again, as those initial forms were before we didn't leave in March.

I just thought it worth pointing out on here since there's a discussion about it.

There is a system in place for EU nationals to register for leave to remain and that will still be there in the event of a no deal Brexit. There has never been any government announcement that they intend to change this and neither have I seen any speculation, even from the Remain bias papers, that this could be a possibility.

Just over a week ago you made a post that 2.5m EU nationals are worried about their residency status in the event of no deal Brexit on 31st October. Why did you say this given that you know, and indeed they will also know by now, that they will still have another 14 months to register even if we do crash out with no deal. If people in fact are so concerned why don't they just register for gods sake. It's been open for over 5 months now, and I've not seen any stories to say there are any issues with the system. If there were any out there you can guarantee you or Summers would have linked it in here by now.

As I said, being an NHS employee, my wife was among the pilot cohort so registered months ago. She's still not at all reassured having done so (and believe it or not, we don't discuss politics as much as you might imagine). Indeed, she's considering shelling out £1,500 for citizenship, and rest assured it's not due to any real desire to be 'British'.

So this is the same as my friend then.

I'm just going off what she said, but it seemed that if we had left as intended by the end of March it would have stood. Or at least that's what she believed.

But we didn't, and now it's all up in the air again.

Like I said, I really don't know. We have a government that have shown more than a willingness to be easy with the truth and with the law, so you'll have to forgive my lack of faith in them to do what they say they will.

This story about the French chefs made it into US media so I’m honestly a bit surprised that you haven’t seen anything about it.
Thanks for that. No I haven't seen that before and I am surprised it been missed by the remain policelol

With the number of applications they are processing there are bound to be errors. In this case the home office are blaming the applicant for pressing the wrong button. It happens. I've been known to do it myself.

As for the increase in the percentage number of temporary settled status being issued, this could simply be due to people applying being here less than 5 years.

I was wondering whether there would be issues with systems crashing, or excessive delays, or even loads of people being refused due to criminal records.

Having Brexit is the most important thing in my life, I honestly don't care if we're poorer or richer, we need to be free. Even if it resulted in me becoming sick and there being no medicine, even if it resulted in me living in the street.

It is a sacrifice we have to make, like the men in the Somme.

you've outed yourself haha

you should've kept it going a while longer.

But what response did they get from their application form ?....

Looks like Johnson will go for another vote on an election again on Monday and under the Fixed Term Parliament Act again. I'm assuming this means he expects the bill trying to prevent No Deal will get royal assent by then, although you can't really assume anything at the moment.

What a mess.
- You can stay but fill in this form,
- it's 80 quid
- no it's not
- actually it might not work now.

Given that alone, it seems pretty clear that the government, even with a plan or deal, will make a right bags of leaving the EU when they eventually do.
Hope it's worth it.

The trade deal.......
But there is no deal so how can you negotiate a trade deal.
EU will decide what tariffs to impose on British imports and Britain will decide what tariffs to impose on EU imports
One puzzling thing though
During the foot and mouth epidemic the DUP (Paisley ) said that the people of Ulster were British but the cattle were Irish, how will that work in a no deal Brexit

It won’t matter, Corbyn will not go for an election......
