Don't they still have up until December 2020 to apply for settled status, even if we leave with no deal.? Even so, people have had the opportunity to apply for settled status, either on line or by post, since April this year, and at no cost to themselves. So even if the deadline was 31st October (which I don't believe it is as I said) you can't blame the UK government if some people couldn't be arsed to apply. That's like me blaming Everton if I was late renewing my season ticket and somebody else got my seat.

I'm no lover of a no deal Brexit as I've said countless times in here and I fully expect some form of economic downturn and disruption to our daily lives, and yes some people will sadly lose their jobs. But the reason that I pulled you up on that earlier post was that you, along with many other remain supporters on here, pick up on every single process of Brexit and assume that the worst will happen. It's no surprise that so many Brexiteers hide behind the Project Fear banner.

The confusion was directly caused by Priti Patel saying quite clearly that free movement would end on October 31st, so many have taken that to mean that those who don't have settled status have had the rug pulled from under them. Given the Windrush debacle it wouldn't be the first time, and I doubt anyone really knows what the true state of affairs is. Johnson is a serial liar, so I don't really think his word has any value whatsoever.

He will call a GE at the end of this , the house gets suspended for about 6 weeks before that so he will get to do whatever he wants at the end of it.
Even without that he has left them very little time to get anything through parliment ,thats without them pulling other scemes.
Goes to a GE as a strong leader who has done what he said he would(something we havnt seen for a while) or he is for the people agaist the establisment who wouldnt do what they were instructed to be the majority in the vote.
Playing a clever game , the opposistion will go towards there own agenda come a GE, libs will try to attack labour to gain traction and seats,
SNP.will go full on we want independance .
Labour have a problem with there leave voters there insnt any pretence of them backing leave anymore(as a leaver i will vote for them to stop boris as i think he is more danger than staying in the EU , but i fear i will be in a minority).
Think this move has just as much as much to do with a GE than anything to do with Brexit.
Parliment have pulled every stroke they can to obstruct Brexit , now up in arms when the tables have beened turned, we are getting led by a shower of donkeys, i have lost all faith in them every coming to a decent outcome over anything never mind just brexit
Cummings as you say has plotted this and will take some stopping in the next few months not to run rings around the other parties .
Oh I can see that being his plan, but plans don't always come off. Parliament is back for a week before the recess and there is every chance the opposition get their act together for a vote of no confidence. And even if Boris does call an election immediately after the Queens speech, does Parliament close down immediately?. I'm not sure, and remember Bercow will likely do anything to avoid a no deal so expect some creativity from him.

I don't think Boris is as in control of things as he likes to thinks he is.

His letter to MPs is telling. The important bit in among all that waffle is paragraph 9 'vitally important for the sake of MY negotiations with the EU'.

Yea, it's obvious to anyone who hasn't been skipping class. May's deal would have had labour support if she'd gauranteed that.

Do you know how polls work mate? @zzr45
I know how polls work but I’m sworn to secrecy.

I also know the poles work by taking jobs from good British lads then spend the money on drugs then fighting police men. That’s where standards have gone. Once we leave the EU the police will become the force we deserve.

Oh, he isn’t in control of things, Barney.

Mr. Dominic Cummings is :)

The terms of the Settled Status scheme are quite clear, including what would happen in the event of a no deal, but then I expect you would already know that given your own personal circumstances.

Anybody already living and working in the UK come 31 October would not be affected by Patel's plans. Only those who seek to come here for work afterwards. Granted, it is a hardening of the position held by the former minister who I think was planning a more pragmatic approach with a lead in period. In that regard I think this is just her posturing/trying to impress Boris given that we have no immigration policy in place yet. Wouldn't one need to be processed through Parliament anyway?

He thinks he is.

There is a big majority amongst MPs to avoid a no deal Brexit Khal. And they have a speaker who makes things up as he goes along.

Anything can still happen yet and I personally can't see it getting resolved until the demographics of parliament is changed. Even that would need the EU to allow the deadline to be extended.

Of course, it's 'possible' that things will be fine. I mean it's possible that the 2.5 million or so EU citizens who had not yet applied for settled status will have successfully done so by October 31st, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't manage to and an enormous headache is created by this government. The Tories playing chicken is all well and good, but a lot of people are going to become collateral damage of their recklessness, which is the opposite of good governance imo.

The EU have had 3 years to sort out with the U.K. what happens to its peoples. The EU have done sod all to try and sort the situation.....
