Oh it did - May was an remainer along with Hammond and the deal she got = I would rather stay in the thing......

....the challenge was always going to be getting any deal through Parliament. There’s no way a hard line Brexiteer PM with a slim majority could’ve done that.

A deal required special skills of diplomacy and conciliation. It needed the right person at the right time. May was not that person. She didn’t fail because she was a remainer, she failed because her ego told her she’d be the PM who would go down in history for negotiating a successful deal.

Yeah. This has Cummings written all over it.

You can't make demands that democracy be respected, and then pull stunts like this.

I don't agree with you on him being a winner whichever way it plays out though. It could turn out to be a huge mistake as there is a danger he may be funnelling his opposition into a position of unity. At the moment his opposition probably have the numbers, but not the unity of purpose to see it through. This may force their hand to all get behind Corbyn.
He will call a GE at the end of this , the house gets suspended for about 6 weeks before that so he will get to do whatever he wants at the end of it.
Even without that he has left them very little time to get anything through parliment ,thats without them pulling other scemes.
Goes to a GE as a strong leader who has done what he said he would(something we havnt seen for a while) or he is for the people agaist the establisment who wouldnt do what they were instructed to be the majority in the vote.
Playing a clever game , the opposistion will go towards there own agenda come a GE, libs will try to attack labour to gain traction and seats,
SNP.will go full on we want independance .
Labour have a problem with there leave voters there insnt any pretence of them backing leave anymore(as a leaver i will vote for them to stop boris as i think he is more danger than staying in the EU , but i fear i will be in a minority).
Think this move has just as much as much to do with a GE than anything to do with Brexit.
Parliment have pulled every stroke they can to obstruct Brexit , now up in arms when the tables have beened turned, we are getting led by a shower of donkeys, i have lost all faith in them every coming to a decent outcome over anything never mind just brexit
Cummings as you say has plotted this and will take some stopping in the next few months not to run rings around the other parties .

...the PM not being a Brexiteer is not what caused the mess.

From Day One, the only way of successfully negotiating Brexit and gaining consent of Parliament was via a conciliatory approach. May’s problem was going alone, it had to be a cross-party approach from the outset.

A big issue as well is that the whole conversation about what Brexit would need and entail was never done honestly

We were never negotiating with the EU from a position of strength, which basically anyone who had a clue stated right from the start, but it was presented that the EU would be desperate to do a deal and that we'd be able to easily get everything we wanted

Some people still honestly believe that, even after everything that has happened

This was never ever on the cards. We were always going to be fighting an uphill battle and compromise was going to be required. Triggering Article 50 so quickly after the vote was such a boneheaded move, because it locked us in before we'd even had a chance to weigh up the likelihood of getting the sort of deal we wanted

Article 50 could have been kept in the bag and deployed for maximum effect, but we essentially played our best card in the very first hand

It's been a disaster from start to finish and there's still an exasperating lack of honesty in regards to what No Deal actually entails from the people that the Brexit brigade will actually listen to. People need to be told the hard truth and the "Project Fear" angle needs to be dropped once and for all, because right now we're sleep walking into absolute disaster and people still believe everything will be fine because they think the warnings are "fake news"

The warnings are real. The risks are real. No Deal will not be something we're just going to shrug off, but people just won't believe it

....Johnson saying on telly that the process he’s taking is nothing to do with Brexit is beyond belief. If our most senior politician acts with such contempt, it’s no wonder folk have lost faith.

Johnson is a very dangerous man to have at the helm, we should all be wary regardless of our political persuasion.
100% agree with this.
Johnson is a real danger to this country and just spouts lie after lie.
The similarities between him and Trump are frightening.

This parliament is already longer than any parliament of modern times. Proroguing is usually an annual event, and it's way overdue. Conference season seems as good a time as any.

MPs have had five weeks since Boris became PM to have all these debates and pass all these laws. So did they? No, because they all wanted to go on holiday instead. That's how seriously they treat the Brexit debate - not important enough to cancel a holiday for.

Proroguing Parliament is the norm. Tony Blair did it nine times. It's nothing new.

Yes it's nothing to do with Brexit...
