City to bid £20 mil for Rodders...

If you managed to sign Milner, it would obviously be a very good signing, no idea what formation you lot play, but I'd presume having him and Fellaini in the middle (if you play 4-4-2) would be very good, defensive and attack minded players and very good ones at that.

But Milner prefers playing in the middle and came off shaking his head after playing on the Wing for Citeh. If you need wingers then Milners probably not the man.

Good to see you back around mate, the season seems to have ended happier than it was looking a month ago for your lads.

All jokes aside, would he want to go?

Im not sure how transfers work, but say they came in with a huge bid, is it up to Rodwell to decide whether he stays or goes?

Im begining to think the new contract for Rodders wasnt such a good idea last summer, i dont know it seems hes lost an appetite, hunger and desire in his play, maybe to much to soon, when you think about it everything has always just fallen into place for him, debut at 16, full time contract afterward, England U21, Media darling, new mega bumper contract, U21 Captain, linked to some of the acheiveing clubs in the year. Dont get me wrong but the lad would benifit from some charicter building aversity.

If it were MC, then I would remind them that Lescott was 24M and that Rodwell is possibly a better player with more potential.
He's yours if the fee is suitable. 24.1M !

I'm sure they'll remind us that Lescott was a first teamer and an England international too !

Hopeing it wont happen, but if he does go, his age drives up any fee.

At 19 thats potentialy 15 years of service for a club or selling on and recouping a fair bit of what you paid.

Many would say Andy Carrol is over priced at 35 million, but if he scores 20 goals a season for ten years then its a snip, 3.5 mill a season as well as resale value. Intrestingly Everton pay more then that out in interest payments on loans per year.

But also older?

Could say more experienced. Depends which way you look at it. Either way, Sheikh or no Sheikh it'd be bad business on City's part to pay over £20m for a player who struggles to get in our side. He needs games to progress and fulfill his potential, if he's not getting them here, he's certainly not at City.

The thing with Carroll though is that he was scoring goals regularly in the Premiership, playing week in week out, and playing for England. Rodwell isn't playing week in week out, and is miles down the pecking order for England. His age is irrelevant really if his current ability isn't that of a £15-20m player, a price only reflects future potential in part, not entirely

I would apoplectic, if he went to City and they paid less for him then they did for Milner. Seeing as well as they are a closer rival to us then say UTD or Chelsea, if it happens, we should force them to pay a premium as well.

Thats utterly ridiculous though mate. You can't demand £40m for Rodwell because one day he may be a £40m player. Current ability, Rodwell would struggle to be a £10m player, if he was 26 and French. He's not done enough to warrant demanding £25-30m, if we get that sort of money out of City then i'd be absolutely over the moon. Its only the fact he's young and English that we can demand prices in the region of £15-20m.

Again, like Carroll, Milner is is entirely different, he was playing for England, playing week in week out for Villa, scoring and playing well. He was one of the best midfielders in the Premiership, and that was reflected in the £26m price tag. We simply cannot demand that for Rodwell as reasonable, we can demand whatever we like but we won't get it. Just because City are haemorreging money, doesn't mean they're stupid.

Very much this, we can demand whatever we want mate, hes on a five year contract - feck them. Its importnt the club looks after its own interests, its my view hes an appreciateing asset, hes got 15 years of career ahead of him! Either way its WIN/WIN - demand a premium or he stays - hes not going to get any cheaper IMO, sellers market.

One of the good things about Jack being in and out of the team, is tht it wont turn into the saga that Lescott did and effect the team in terms of the begining of the season, nor do we necessarily need a direct replacement urgently ala Distin. Therefore leverage.

I think any bid we may get will be about 20m-25m. We can ask for whatever we like, that's how much we chose to value him at

We can demand 40m if we want, Newcastle got 35m for a striker who I think possibly had 1 England before he joined Liverpool and about 9 prem goals. I'm not saying he's worth it, but if Newcastle can demand 35m, why can't we?

You can demand £80m if you like, doesn't mean you'll get it !. The fact remains that Carroll, Milner and any other player you can point to were playing for England, playing week in week out for their club and dominating games, first name on the team sheet. The extortionate prices for both Milner and Carroll reflect all things combined, their age, their nationality, the fact they went to clubs in the same league, their current ability as well as their potential.

Fact is Rodwell is nowhere near that standard at the moment. One day he might be but then again he might not push on. Though i'll tell you one thing, he'll need games to fulfill that potential ability thats for certain, and it'd be detrimental for his career to make any big move at this stage. If Rodwell cemented his place in our team next season, and started getting into the England team, THEN he might be worth £25-30m. But not now, City would be quite frankly stupid to pay it. If they do, then brilliant for us, but i get the feeling just because they have money to throw away, doesn't mean they will.
