City to bid £20 mil for Rodders...

Ultimately i just want to see money invested in the team, if that means getting rid of one or two first team players, then so be it. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward.

If we sold Rodwell, Heitinga, Bily, Yak, Yobo and Vaughan and got £40m or so, that wouldn't be too bad providing it all went back into the team. I'm looking forward to being pleasantly surprised by this Everton team, but if Europe is the aim for next year, i'm not confident.

if Rodders goes then we will be having the same tread about Barckley in two years time, just as we were with Rooney 5 or 6 years ago.

I'm afraid until we can satisfy the ambitions of Rodwell, Rooney and co, we'll always be having these threads.

Yes, i would id keep this squad togehter. There is enough diversity in it. We should stretch to a striker if we get rid of the low hanging fruit, which is really the only thing we need, in addition to maybe loans or a free. The young players like Rodwell, Coleman Fellaini, Gueye, Vic etc need to grow togehter - they will improve, just like we saw with Lescott, Baines, Arteta, Cahill, Jags, etc when they first appeared and improved. Added to that another layer potentialy coming through in the Barckleys and Hopes. The blend at the moment is just right.

Otherwise if Rodders goes then we will be having the same tread about Barckley in two years time, just as we were with Rooney 5 or 6 years ago.

Sensible argument.

In which case, the best plan would be to sell Heitinga, Bily, Yak, Yobo, Vaughan (£18m estimate); and attempt to squeeze two quality signings, i.e one winger and a striker out of that. There's enough decent free's about and kids coming through to prop the squad numbers up...so I'd be inclined to agree.

Is letting players like Rodwell, Gueye, Vellios, Coleman, Big Vic find their feet in the PL and become players not taking a step back to take a step forward, who is to say this season wasnt our step back and next season our step forward.

Baines was like Billy, two years ago - everyone on here wanted to sell him when Lescott was in the team to raise funds.

Of course it could be, but we could just as easily take another step back by failing to prepare. Nobody knows how good Gueye, Vellios or Rodwell could be because they've only got a handful of games between them this season.

Well why not take Jeffers as an example ? Chris Smalling was playing week in week out for Fulham prior to January when United paid £12m for him, thats the difference. Of course the longevity of the career is a factor in any transfer fee, but the calibre of the player is always the main factor.

That's blatantly not true. He'd made all of one league appearance (where he scored an own goal). He was only ever used as cover if Hughes and Hangeland needed resting after a big european game, nothing more. Fulham fans couldn't believe the fee, if I remember right.

Rodwell is a lot closer to breaking into our first team than Smalling was to Fulham's.

Rodwell has played 26 games this season.

I wouldn't sell Rodwell for 20 mill. I'm quite positive he'll be worth 25-30 mill in one or two years. People seem to forget that he JUST turned 20 years old. How many players are even near their peak at that age? With his injuries this year and struggling to get time and form, we would be selling low on a valuable commodity. Everton can't afford to sell low on any asset.

There's also many intangibles that Jack brings to the table. He's a good looking lad who seems humble and loyal. He's the kind of player that could easily end up being the poster boy not only for a new team but also for England in the future. That might not mean much on the pitch but it could mean quite a bit of money to the club that owns him.

Moyes has always struck me as confident in his ability to bring along young players and get the most out of them. I'm not saying he is but he "thinks" he is. If that's the case, he'll have high hopes for Rodders. I doubt he would sell him for less than 25 mill.

To me the question is how long do we hang onto him based on potential rather than ability. He's had a lot of games this season and not really lit up any of them.

On the one hand, Manchester United hung onto Nani a long time and then he came good and has been outstanding this season, a real asset, but on the other hand how many promising players like Bendtner and Diaby have we seen stagnate at Arsenal where they've never really repayed the investment in them.

It's a tricky one and depends entirely on your opinion of the player. I'm still in the sell camp, myself.

Rodwell has played 26 games this season.

He made 18 appearances for Fulham prior to signing for United in January. Rodwell hadn't made 18 appearances for us before January. Bottom line, Rodwell isn't good enough to start for us week in week out, so he certainly isn't going to be good enough to start week in week out for City, United, Chelsea or whoever else is interested.

And Gueye and Velios have 8 appearances between them. Alot of Rodwells have been as a sub, either way it still rings true, none have been major fixtures in the team.

Agreed

I really dont understand this, fans writing players in or out based on what they know or have seen of them - granted its the only way for fans to judge them, but it doesnt necessarily mean their rubbish, the manager makes that decison overall based on their talent, training etc - when, where and the right games to play them. Fans just loose paitentce and want to see something new so they can make their minds up - that doesnt necessarily mean its the right thing. At the end of the day whatever fans think is irrelevent - as our contrasting opinions show.

This thread is a perfect example, Rodwell is just gone 20, he has miles to go in his development and fulfilling his potential. People are making rash judgements due to inpaitence and because they just want to see something new. Making a diffinitive call on any player of his age, let alone one of Rodwells raw talents is massively neglect. Keeping in mind that judement is made on a period of 17 and up.

Stat Police Alert - think Smalling made 9 appearances for Fulham before Man Utd agreed the deal, like.

*gets a life

I have no life, he made 18 appearances. 12 in the league, 1 in the league cup, 1 in the FA Cup and 4 in the Europa League.

Neiler, i see where your coming from, but ultimately fans will pass judgement on his performances, its not about wanting to see something new, its just wanting to do whats right by the club.

Not that it matters at all, but as I said before Man Utd agreed the deal in Jan. He then made the rest after he signed for them in the summer

Quite a gamble for someone playing so little amount of games

I'm so Damon right now

If we sell Rodwell its £25m,if City want him its £30m+,theres club money then theres Cities money so its gonna cost city more simpley screw them for what we can! Time to stop being a soft touch club!

I can google Chris Smalling too, mate.

That's all season. Man U brought him in January but he stayed at fulham until June. Most of his appearances were after the transfer.

Clever, but i bet you can't tell me what his favourite Ice Cream flavour is !
