Not that it matters at all, but as I said before Man Utd agreed the deal in Jan. He then made the rest after he signed for them in the summer

Quite a gamble for someone playing so little amount of games

I'm so Damon right now

And they gazumped Arsenal as well who bid 10 mill.

Anyway back to Jack, im going to be really interested in the U21 Championship this summer, will be intresting to see how Jack gets on playing against players his own age.

Hopefully Rodwell will make the same sort of impact Ozil did for the German u21's not long ago when they won it.

I wouldn't sell Rodwell for 20 mill. I'm quite positive he'll be worth 25-30 mill in one or two years. People seem to forget that he JUST turned 20 years old. How many players are even near their peak at that age? With his injuries this year and struggling to get time and form, we would be selling low on a valuable commodity. Everton can't afford to sell low on any asset.

There's also many intangibles that Jack brings to the table. He's a good looking lad who seems humble and loyal. He's the kind of player that could easily end up being the poster boy not only for a new team but also for England in the future. That might not mean much on the pitch but it could mean quite a bit of money to the club that owns him.

Moyes has always struck me as confident in his ability to bring along young players and get the most out of them. I'm not saying he is but he "thinks" he is. If that's the case, he'll have high hopes for Rodders. I doubt he would sell him for less than 25 mill.

But how many players by that are woth £25 million at 22 have shown as little a Rodwell has at 20?

I think there are 2 sides to this argument, those who are judging him what he does on the pitch and those who judge him on what he might do later on in his career. Personally i don't think there are enough signs in his game at the moment to suggest he'll ever be a truely top quality player. The comparisons with the likes of Bale and Walcott aren't really valid as they were star performers at 16 years old. The likes of Carrick and Jenas had already played for England before they were 20. Jenas was constantly being linked as a Keane or Vieira replacement for £20+ million. He won the Young player of the Year award at the same age Rodwell was this season (19/20). But despite being athletic, harworking and technically sound, he's never really showed signs of being anything special and I see the same with Rodwell. I never really see Rodwell compared with Jenas, but they are very similar (when you watch them running with the ball it's almost frightening how similar they appear in style). Jenas has an incredible engine, makes lots of passes, tackles and is a good striker of the ball. But he lacks that something extra and now can't even get into the Spurs side. A lot of fans will reject the comparison with Jenas, but the truth is Jenas had achieved much more in his career at the same age as Rodwell and if anything showed more potential.

Spot on.

More caps than Dixie Dean, Jenas.

Andy Carroll,
Gerrard,
Frank Lampard,
Milner.

All of the above had established themselves at club level at his age though. Look at Wilshere, thats the progression your looking for. He's younger than Rodwell, and an immediate starter for club and country.

That said, JR has 69 senior games under his belt, JW has 49. Not many would have swapped Wilshire for Rodwell this time last year - which underlines my point, for young players its easy to to do it in bits of seasons, its harder to do it consistently over three seasons as Jack has been exposed to. Wilshire really is into his first competitive player - next year may be a different storey compleatly and lets face it hes playing with Fabergas, Arshavien, Nasri etc. Dont get me wrong hes a very good player, but Rodwell IMO is of that standard full tilt.

Lampard was out of the WH team - more often then not before being of loaded to Chelsea he was behind in the pecking order behind Cole and Carrick - even at Chelsea it took him a while to be automatic. Milner had found first team games hard come by at Leeds/Newcastle before settleing in at Villa (on the second occasion). Gerrard was woefully inconsistent and out of the team much to his ire on countless occasions untill he hit about 23/24. Carroll was an after thought of Martines, Micheal Owen untill cost cutting after relgation forced Newcastle in to playing him.

When I watch Jack, the problems I see with him are mostly about the mental aspects of the game. Those can be taught and learned through experience. He's got physical abilities that no one can teach. And let me ask this, how many games has Jack been fully fit? He's had a lot of injuries and has came back early with each (in some cases too early). Add to it that players need a run of matches (at full fitness) to get into form. I don't think he's had that chance this year. I want to give him that chance before writing him off and selling him to the billionaire with the deepest pockets.

I have no problem with selling Jack as long as it's a fair price. Considering his potential and intangibles, I think that price is 25 mill right now. It's a risk to keep him as there's always a chance he never makes it and starts losing value. But do we really want to play it safe? We've been playing it safe for years and are still knocking on the door of the "elite 6's" party.

At 20 Gerrard and Lampard were England internationals. Lampard had already scored 5+ Prem league goals for 3 seasons running. Gerrard was already a regular for a Champions League club and at 20 was named Young player of the Year. He was also named PFA Fans Player of the Year and in ther FA team of the year. This is miles ahead of Rodwell. Milner didn't get transfered for big money until he was 24 years old and had proven himself. At 22 Villa fans were complianing tye'd over paid for him, depsite that fact he'd probably also done more than Rodwell. Carroll I'll accept, but he's a target man and they usually develop later as the position is so reliant on strength. I've seen the Gerrard comparison used before I he really hasn't earned it, or even come close to earning it. Rodwell wouldn't be in the Everton first team if everyone was fit, when Gerrard was nameed in the entire Prem team of the year at the same age.

I disagree, his physical attributes are naturally acquired. His height, pace, stamina, strength, they are great attributes to have but its discipline, drive, vision, timing, these are the traits he's missing, that he needs to acquire to be a success at this level, and they are by no means a formality.

And even so we're hardly knocking on their door. Its taken Spurs winning one since February, and our best run of the campaign to get anywhere close, and even now we need a minor miracle to finish above them on goal difference. We're the best of the rest, though I think it will take a bold move, such as selling Baines, Fellaini and Rodwell to restructure this team so we are able to knock on the door of the elite 6 (i've never heard them called that before !)

And bear in mind the likes of Villa, Newcastle, Bolton, Sunderland and perhaps one or two others will be spending big this summer to push on, so its not just a case of looking up, we'll do well to maintain that position next season if we don't see some investment.

Rodwell looked much better when he first broke into the first team, but this season has done sod all. For Wenger, Ferguson, and Mancini to all (admiteedly reportedly) be fighting over the kid then he must be something special. We haven't seen it in the matches thus far but he must be dynamite in training. I would hate for us to cash in too early and lose our 'Gerrard' if you will, as rather than hearing GERRARDDDD everytime we play the ****e It'd be special to consistently hear RODWELLLLLLLL. I'm sure you catch my drift there.

I've never ever been so indecisive about whether I like a player or not. My heart says yes, my head says he wont make it. But he could just be taking his time to bloom, its very possible.

Good job this is upto Mr Moyes, and not us. I get the feeling that he doesn't rate Rodwell as much as he lets on, and that he probably rates Barkley as a better prospect. This may be our peak time to sell the young lad and get 2 or 3 quality players in instead, whilst our 'own gerrard' is actually Ross Barkley waiting in the wings...

But lets face it, Franny Jeffers and Michael Ball were prob in the same team as both of them for Engerland, who were prob rebounding from some peno disaster show and focussing on "youth" again. Jacks just gone 20 and i wouldnt rule out a full cap by next March - lets be honest the media were screaming for him to be included in the senior sqaud - at 17 after the last U21 tournament. Happily Wilshire has come along to take some of that pressure. Anyway Gerrard got one at 20 and Lamaprd 21 - like i say i wouldnt rule out Jack being called up by March - especially if he impresses in the summer.

Not to be facetious in any way, but shock horror, Liverpool player gets awards voted for by Media and fans - i mean come on - we all know the storey there - Messi could play for us and still not get an acolade - i cite one Baines of Leighton. As for being at a CL club - well thats just an unfortunate coincidence really, arent the clubs who want to sign Jack CL clubs - so i fail to see the point. Ah so Milner was 24 so had five more years expierence under his belt, were was he at just gone 20 mate! PL team of the year?????????? Your jokeing right - did you see it this year?

Well why not take Jeffers as an example ? Chris Smalling was playing week in week out for Fulham prior to January when United paid £12m for him, thats the difference. Of course the longevity of the career is a factor in any transfer fee, but the calibre of the player is always the main factor.

Of course the clubs were reluctant to sell, because those players were immediate starters !! Without doubt the clubs best player, in each case. Rodwell is not our best player, he can't even get into the team. To say it doesn't matter about the players ability is utter tosh.

How is it? Saying a fee doesnt represent a players ability is about a ls true as it comes. If a fee represents the players ability then carrol is better than David villa and lescott is one of the best central defenders in the world for example

As for carrol...he's been a regular starter for 1 full season in the championship to which he wasn't the top goalscorer from my recollection, and half a season in the premiership to which he scored 10 goals for them 3 of which in one game...some ranger for Newcastle has done also (bag a hattrick I mean).

If you believe that stat for half a season in the premiership demands a £35million fee based on ability, then fair play to you. I put it down to a club with every right to slap a high fee in him because they don't wan to sell.

As for rodders not being a first team player...that's down to 3 players keeping him out - Cahill 31, arteta 29, and fellaini 22, - only fellaini being of similar age but also commanded a high fee of 15mill. Add to that and moyes' poor coaching (playing him in 4 different positions this season) and ability not to drop certain players out of form - arteta for eg, says to me there's more to it than he's not good enough to start. Moyes did the same with Rooney.
