But it’s not a football match, it’s a quiet street. Any bad guys are not going to arrive in their hundreds during the daylight requiring horses to control them....however one or two traveller nutters may just decide to turn up at 3.00am and throw something through the window or worse....

But there are people there , people putting up and taking down flowers. Of course there is a potential for problems and again if you’re suggestions the threat is disorder then have police including on horseback if you’re suggesting some kind of assassination you’ll want firearms . As discussed we’ve finite numbers of both plus I don’t think you can have one firearms copper , I’ve generally only seen them in two’s( That’s probably wrong though) .

The object ,i’d Think , is to prevent anything happening so I don’t see why the horses are such a problem personally.

I want the fella protected , he’s done nothing wrong and that’s what the law and police is for.

It’s all getting out of hand now, some other angry man has started ripping the flowers down and this will now provide a magnet for nutters on both sides. The police and the council need to show leadership here and should call a halt to this now and not let any more flowers be put up. If this carries on much longer we will have fascists and anti fascists and all the other violent trouble makers getting involved when all it needs is for the powers to stop it now.......

Meanwhile I hope the old fella and his wife are doing ok.......

Do you know I was going to add that . I totally understand why originally a neighbour would pull them down , I suspect I may have felt tempted myself but now it seems we’ve got people seeking notoriety and it’s unseemly.

Totally agree with you last point .

They had 3 police horses on duty. Why ?, were they expecting to have to deal with mass crowd control around the ‘shrine’. The shrine is intimidatory to the old guy and his wife, deliberately so, and should not have been allowed by the Police in case it caused trouble, which it no doubt will. It’s also intimidatory to the owner of the fence who wouldn’t dare complain in case of reprisal. To then send Police horses just emphasises their initial mistake.....if you or I were to put up a poster of a missing dog on the fence we could be charged with ‘urban decay’ and fined.
Pikeys still show up with horses mate.

Pony and traps all over the roads where they live.

I have to deal with travellers regularly. Some are fine, most are utter gobshites though.

I doubt you do work with travellers regularly, if at all, if you did, you would certainly not use the term I have replaced. So some are fine others are gobshites, just about explains the entire human race, even some Everton supporters it seems!

Travelling community most certainly would turn up during the day if they felt incensed enough by our settled ways, which they see as duplicitous for much of it. My guess if this is straight story of theif gets caught and ends very badly, this will pass. However, if there is anything else at play or been building up to this incident with the same players, the police have every reason to be very concerned!

Considering the other week you was in uproar over Jeremy Corbyn and antisemitism.

You seem to think its ok to be racist about travellers.

Who is being racist. If he’d said he had to deal with Moomin he’d also have had my sympathy......

Surely no one could argue with number 46. All Irish Traveller sites will be closed, and All Irish Travellers, their ancestors and descendents will be repatriated back to Ireland........although I don't fully understand about repatriating their ancestors...

I have no doubt that if taken to court a jury will come back with the correct result, whatever that happens to be, I just don’t like the way that a homeowner who’s property has been invaded is immediately arrested and kept in a cell. The police used to investigate burglaries and support homeowners, now they investigate homeowners and support Burglars. It’s exactly the same when ‘travellers’ invade someone’s land, the police will do nothing, but if the landowner tries to throw them out the police will be all over them. It’s perverse......

Funny thing is, if an ethnic person is arrested then everyone bends over backwards not to upset ‘the community’, yet no one seems to notice or even care that the ‘law abiding community’ are a bit upset about this case, but then again we won’t be on the streets lighting fires or whatever......just shut up and keep paying your taxes and parking fines.......

Ok I’ll give an example or two, a group of travellers entered a local field that had a gate locked with a padlock and chain. The chain was cut, which is against the law.The Police refused to do anything because they couldn’t prove who precisely had cut the chain and allowed the travellers to remain. A building society had a safe stolen by ramming the building with a telehandler and taking the safe which was put onto a truck. The truck was found, hidden, close to a traveller site but no further enquiries were made. Why, because they were being sensitive to a minority group. Meanwhile, a farmer who had a barn burnt down was suspected of arson, when in fact it turned out to be some kids. A different approach you see.....

You see, this is where your ignorance is leading you astray.

The Police in this country cannot just act as they see fit, or (more worryingly) as you see fit. They have no power to take away someone's property without legal grounds, nor do they normally have the power to remove or eject people or things from or on private property (which is why baliffs invariably are used to evict people or seize goods under warrant, rather than cops and why the police dont go around cleaning off graffiti). If whoever owns the fence hasn't objected - and you appear to concede that they haven't - then there is literally nothing that the cops can do about it at this stage.

As for the intimidatory aspect of this - yes, it certainly has that aspect to this but the idea that they are advertizing that they know where he lives is surely made redundant by the fact that the media has told everyone where he lives, what he looks like and his name. They will probably tell us when he returns home as well.

Finally, with regards to the Police horses - the only operational police station with mounted branch stables left in South London is at Lewisham, ie: less than a mile and a half away from where this happened. They were probably just out for a walk.

And this is where your ignorance shows through...(apologies for saying so, I was just reacting to your vernacular)

Under section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 a person is guilty of causing harassment, alarm and distress if they 'display any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting, within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby'. Which the ‘shrine’ opposite the old guys house was.....

So if the nearest Police station was the one holding water cannons you would be happy for them to be deployed, sorry, just giving them a little drive.......

I have emboldened the relevant part, which also demonstrates how you are chatting rubbish again.

I’d suggest putting up flowers to mourn someone’s death , whatever I think of Act and whatever we all seem to think of the dead person, is pretty much never going to meet the criteria above .

Even if you say it does a google of the specifics of the offence , in relation to putting up a sign/notice etc .. says :

“A person is guilty of an offence under s.5 only if he intends his words or behaviour, or the writing, sign or other visible representation, to be threatening or abusive or is aware that it may be threatening or abusive or (as the case may be) he intends his behaviour to be or is aware that it may be disorderly.”

So I’d suggest that’s a non runner unless we’re suggesting the flowers are put up with that purpose . Certainly the ’sympathy’ cards I’ve seen in the media wouldn’t fall in with the above .
