It’s reported that they’ve put them back up again. I bet the guy that owns the fence is feeling a bit nervous.....

Absolute joke this is and shows why he was like he was as he is obviously from a family of wrong'uns. This is not a traffic accident to put mass displays of sympathy, he had no right to be in that house and unfortunately paid the highest price for it. It's not like he was a boy that got caught up in something, that I might understand, he was a serial burglar that preyed on some of the most vulnerable in society.

The police should take all that stuff away and they can either collect them and put them in an appropriate place (i.e. their home or garden) or they get shredded and if they put more up the same thing should happen again and again if necessary. That way it takes it away from being the residents issue and they shouldn't fear any reprisal in trying to get back to normality.

I’m not sure that’s the police’s job to take it down though , it’s a council matter I’d think . I don’t know who the ‘removal of shrines ‘ falls under to be honest but it’s no threat to safety and isn’t causing an obstruction I’m Not sure it’d be a police matter . I think it’d be appropriate to have the stuff moved , I’m just talking logistics .

Well yes whoever's responsibility, however if someone kept tying things to your fence I would have thought it would be a police matter as it borders on harassment, surely permission should be sought first? I think it would just be more of a sign of authority if the police could remove them whilst the people are putting these up.

Awful situation to be in for all the people in the street and you just don't know how long the family and friends are going to keep it up for.

They have just done what they should have done, and would have done anyway if the papers / the cretinry on the internet hadn't heard anything about this.

They had 3 police horses on duty. Why ?, were they expecting to have to deal with mass crowd control around the ‘shrine’. The shrine is intimidatory to the old guy and his wife, deliberately so, and should not have been allowed by the Police in case it caused trouble, which it no doubt will. It’s also intimidatory to the owner of the fence who wouldn’t dare complain in case of reprisal. To then send Police horses just emphasises their initial mistake.....if you or I were to put up a poster of a missing dog on the fence we could be charged with ‘urban decay’ and fined.

If there wasn’t a police presence I’m prepared to wager you’d be lamenting the police not ensuring the security of residents . Weren’t you advocating him having armed protection the other day ? Or at least suggesting it was likely .

Is urban decay a criminal offence ? I’ve honestly never heard of it , is that the legislation that you’d suggest they use to remove it ? Genuine question , urban decay is it a criminal offence ? As regards something like criminal damage I’d say they would argue there is no permanent damage to the fence or pavement and limited obstruction so I’m not sure what legislation other than your suggestion of ‘urban decay’ covers it . I also think if they removed it whilst I reckon there are loads of other similar shrines across London , including for those linked to criminality , they’d probably face criticism for singling these out . This doesn’t mean I don’t think that it’s ridiculous but I think lots of legal things are ridiculous but they are still there .

I’m not speaking from knowledge of experience but surely anything like rubbish on the street falls under the local authority so I’d suggest it’d be down to them.

It is down to the council and fines for the likes of urban decay are also under their control I believe. A police presence is precisely what is needed, but not horses, that’s just for the cameras. One armed officer would do....

In my limited knowledge and experience I’d suggest Armed officers are exactly what you don’t need and horses are a spot on selection.

For me there he a reason we have mounted police at public disorder rather than armed . Going the match every week we’ve seen horses for years , not to keep the cameras happy but to control the crowd. I know it’s obvious but A horse is massive and most match goers have been moved by one fairly easily and I know I have . it’s a lot easier for one horse or particularly a couple to move a crowd than double the number of standard coppers walking about . Also the horses do it in that way where they often just move slowly without agression but because of their size you move right out of the way . I’ve also seen then moving quickly at the match when it’s kicked off and they’re scary as.

Since the terrorist threat increase i suspect there are armed but I can’t say i’ve noticed but also they’re there for a specific purpose . You want one armed police officer there is that right ? So how do they move the crowd it it gets Lairy , do they shoot them ? Shoot over their heads ? Go back to the car to lock the weapon away then come back or steam into them with a weapon that could be taken from them ? All of which seem to me to be absolutely ridiculous suggestions and probably the worst possible tool to do the job we seem to be asking to be done . If you’re suggesting to expect the crowd to pull out guns then start shooting then an armed copper is exactly what you want . If it’s disorder you’re trying to prevent then I reckon horses are better but maybe you’re right .

But it’s not a football match, it’s a quiet street. Any bad guys are not going to arrive in their hundreds during the daylight requiring horses to control them....however one or two traveller nutters may just decide to turn up at 3.00am and throw something through the window or worse....
