TBF I think this is a bit harsh - yes, there is a lot more the West can do (not least in terms of clearing out Russian influence from our own countries) but they have done something and it will help.

For a start the sanctions will take months / years to bite, not hours but they will bite. Secondly the increased number (and more importantly, capability) of NATO forces on the border (and their presence there for years) is going to always be something the Russian government will have to keep in mind, especially if the Russians don't "win" soon.

I think 'token gestures' are what they say on the tin. You need to go for the jugular with sanctions...

...even if they take the SWIFT measures now that has taken time which has cost lives.

Well where is your evidence its money from corruption. Has it been established in an impartial court?

1: If you look at Cayman, they froze assets across the board a couple of years ago. Individuals, hedge funds and all different spectrums of account holders. They required no evidence and held the funds for (if im not being conservative) 18months in some cases without charge.

2: Its quite widely accepted that Putin's cronies are handsomely rewarded.

Im speaking generally but the Federation and Duma will both be massively corrupt -- hence Putin's mafia references.

Zatmania, I voted for Biden. Not because I think he’s any good, but he was better than the alternative. Can we stop pretending Trump would’ve handled this any better though? If anything we’d probably be a temper tantrum away from all our nuclear war.

What the people who hate trump fail to process is that while hes a maniac, Putin and others wont be able to 2nd guess him...with Germany, Hungary France, Italy and the US now you can read them like a book.

Biden releases $350m in military aid to Ukraine​

Reuters reports that President Joe Biden has instructed the US State Department to release $350m in military aid to Ukraine as it struggles to repulse a Russian invasion.
In a memorandum to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Biden directed that $350m allocated through the Foreign Assistance Act be designated for Ukraine’s defence.

Ukraine seemingly had no intention of being in NATO until Russia started funding separatist rebels in 2014.

I'm not saying they are.

It was a broader point about compromise, and that being prepared to compromise is a perfectly natural and normal way to operate when looking to find a resolution.

And Russia didnt fund rebels, until a coup, backed by Nazis targeted Russian speakers in the country. So we can play the blame game all we like.

Well have you got any evidence they are any more corrupt than say politicians in this country? Any convictions in the court of their country for example, for the practice of Duma members.

And Pearson is just a complete try hard knobhead. In the middle of Covid was simultaneously moaning about everyone else going out and doing things, while at the same time then saying she was going to do what she liked as she didnt get about consequences. I think she tried to sue an exam board as well, because her kids didnt get th mark she wanted, she lost.

That tweet is just typical of her really. Lashing out calling people cowards from the safety of her office. If shes that uncowardly and bothered, why doesnt she travel to Ukraine to help?

If I really felt people were cowards, rather than writing dirge in newspapers like the Telegraph, I'd get off my backside and go and do something about it. It's that typical disjunct between her words and her actions that irritates me.

Some people on this forum keep forgetting that Biden was the best option we had. Because having Trump for another four years could have brought worse consequences than the invasion of Ukraine.
