There was some promotion of a general today to overall command iirc, is everyone reading that and getting their wires crossed?

Edit this was the promotion I refer to above

The guy promoted is actually very competent and a proper military guy rather than a lot of the higher echelon ones who are either in position due to connections etc, this guy worked his way up - he served in Spetsnaz during the Soviet Afghan war.

Yeah but who pressures who into what - Putin wouldn't want to be a failure, Zelenskiy won't give up Ukraine (which is what Putin wants), so this stalemate will stay a bit longer, probably.

The last part - I think half the world is hoping something or someone kills Putin at this point...
As I mentioned to another poster, more than half the world Africa, Asia and Latin America. Don't support the US or NATO in this. They've had experience of the good old US. They are probably all in the pay of the Kremlin but they would rather Zelensky was the one who came to a sticky end.

A ceasefire that includes Russian troops withdrawing from Crimea, and all the Ukrainian land invaded from February onwards, would be accepted and welcomed by all.

Except you.
You a mind reader now,I've done nothing but call for a ceasefire from the beginning of this. Its all on the thread...

I'll say for the last time ( well maybe not) Turkey brokered a peace deal which involved Zelensky ceding autonomy to the Donbass not joining Nato to leave a buffer between the West and Russia. You'd have to ask Biden, Boris Johnson and Zelensky why it wasn't enacted.
Why on Earth should Ukraine have to cede the Donbass as the price of not having Putin's troops raping and murdering civilians? "Give me whatever I demand, or I'll invade and take it by force." That's not international diplomacy. That's piracy, just without ships.

As for not joining NATO: good Lord above. The sheer absurdity of demanding such a thing marks Putin as a psychopath.

Asked them all have you?

So if you were a Russian conscript and had seen this ( I've a feeling it's been widely available in Russia to all their armed forces) you'd lay down your arms to Ukrainian forces?
But then maybe it's deep faked.?
As Samuel Johnson put it:
"Among the calamities of war may be jointly numbered the diminution of the love of truth, by the falsehoods which interest dictates and credulity encourages." ( The Idler, 1758)

We all know he's a psychopath, let's just wait until he presses that button. BTW I didn't suggest they ceded the Donbass. That was the Ukrainian Foreign Minster who was negotiating it. Keep up.
