The 2 years since Martinez left.

Rose tinted glasses. But I do think not enough was made of how the players completely downed tools on him.

Would have been interesting to see how he spent the money Koeman and Walsh got this year.

If he could have convinced more Lukaku level players to join us, or if he still would have gone for McGeady/Cleverley types.

I liked the fella and his first season here was the best I've ever seen Everton be

But the defending was getting worse and worse, as were the signings

He'd have taken us down, he had to go

It was very poor form from the players, but I always think it is a managers responsibility to make those players want to go into battle for you. If it isn’t the case, then Martinez failed in the main aspect of his job.

Just reading through the comments on this one and can see it from both sides....

The first season under Martinez was for me the most enjoyable season to watch Everton since the premiership started. Great football that was positive and loved his interviews after games that were always taking the positives out of the game. Don't need to say anymore on the next 2 seasons that hasn't been said in the comments.

Easy to look back now and say were we wrong too sack him but actually think back to what it was like under those 2 seasons, the 5 below points were more than enough reason for us to get rid....

1. The side ways passing that went from the 1st season to be attacking controlled possession that looked like we could score at any moment, to the two centre backs passing between themselves for 5 minutes to pass it back to the keeper who would just hoof it down the pitch.

2. The taking the positives out of interviews went from being refreshing to the most frustrating thing to watch. Harping on that we were unlucky but played great football when we have just lost 0-3 at home.

3. The stubbornness to not change things when they clearly wasn't working.

4. The word Phenomenal.

5. Tim Howard......

Don't agree though that his signing's bar a couple were shocking, there was a couple of shockers but Cleverly and Mcgeady were brought in for next to nothing and both sold for profit. And brought in Lukaku, Barry and Lennon.

It was 100% the correct decision to get rid, as with Koeman and hopefully Fat Sam. Is it too much to ask for a manger that is positive in his approach and not stubbon to relaise when things are not working.

Nothing. He was useless with big cash. Club record buys on trash like Bilyaletdinov, smackheads like Beattie, and a galoot like Fellaini.

Strange player to include in that. How many of our midfielders have had a better scoring record than Fellaini did in 2012-13 in the last 10 years? None.

Fellaini - 12 goals in 36 appearances. 11 league goals

Cahill - 10 in 43 (09-10). 8 league goals.
Mirallas - 11 in 36 (14-15). 7 league goals.
Barkley - 12 in 48 (15-16). 8 league goals (including penalties)

He had the best goals to games, most goals in the league and didn't rely on penalties.

Bossing a very good Arsenal team all over the Emirates and pinning them back in their own half; setting up to murder them at Goodison. Dominating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before falling for a late winner from them; going all out to end our appalling record at OT and winning the game.

"No bottle".

You couldn't make this stuff up. If there's one thing Martinez could never be accused of its having no bottle in the way he approached games, especially against "the elite".
It's a real shame Martinez didn't succeed here because I do believe his plans and ambitions for the club were very much along the right lines. But in hindsight I do believe there were 3 problems with him. One was in his football philosophy and the others were in his individual characteristics, and it was the combination of the 3 that were to prove his downfall.

Firstly, his football philosophy demanded a certain quality of player to make it work. On the whole, we didn't have enough of them in the right positions. Basically our players just weren't good enough to play the way he demanded, resulting in us losing possession far too frequently leaving us defensively exposed.

The two personal traits that let him down were stubbornness and loyalty. He demanded blind loyalty from his players and in return he reciprocated that loyalty. Anybody disagreed with him were invariably out, whether that be playing or backroom staff. I don't think I need to go into the stubbornness, but it was these traits that eventually led to him losing the dressing room, and it can only go one way from there.

Whilst I was glad to see him go I have to admit that he left the club in a better position (football wise) than we are now. I certainly enjoyed the football being served up a lot more than the current dross, and I whoever/wherever we were playing I always felt reasonably confident of getting some sort of positive result.

He played the same way at Swansea and Wigan - his “philosophy” (style of play) just is not very effective

It is with the right players. We didn't have them, neither did Wigan or Swansea. But then that's where his stubbornness comes to the fore. He'll continue playing the same way even though it doesn't work with the players he has at his disposal.

Where is the evidence of this? He has had one good league season in his entire EPL career, and it was when he took over Moyes’ team. When he put more of his own stamp on the team it regressed massively. He deserves a share of the blame for the state of the team.

You may not like Martinez but can we stop with that utter [Poor language removed]? He introduced Lukaku, Del Boy, McCarthy, Barry and even Barkley. All 5 played massive roles in our team. So thats almost 50% of his own players. Then factor in the style of football we played... It was about as close to a Moyes team as the current Man United side.

The usual variety of opinions on here about Bobby Brown Shoes,no need to add to them because no one will change their mind. Just two random thoughts......A couple of years ago I had a social/business meeting with the backroom staff at Wigan(the only time I've been in the stadium) and to a man they all said that Roberto was the best thing that ever happened to the club, despite the relegation, and that they would have 'that great little guy' back in a flash.
Secondly, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill on Goals on Sunday, both seem to think to varying degrees that we sacked Martinez too soon. Henry made another good point...Do Everton supporters REALLY know what they want?

It's so easy to forget just how toxic those last few months were.

Under Roberto, we took the classic one step forward and two steps back. He kept making the same mistakes week in week out, but everything was phenomenal according to him. His press conferences became more and more bizarre.

The team lost discipline and was largely unfit because of him. His backroom staff was also uninspired.

He had a good first season bounce, helped by the stability left by Moyes, but the negatives just wracked up thereafter. He simply had to go.
This is definitely something that really started to annoy me. His patent denial of and failure to take responsibility for shortcomings that were obvious to absolutely everyone. If I had have worked with him as a player this would have made me think he was totally cuckoo and I wouldn't want to work with someone like that, in any industry.

If he'd have just said 'our defending is rubbish and we're going to work on it' instead of trying on the spin I think fans / players might have had more time for him, but he couldn't be self-critical and accept his own failings, and how can you expect to improve at anything if you can't do that.

Martinez in his first season spent 31 million. Then 43 million in his second season. Then 45 million in his third season. Martinez had money, plenty of it and apart from lukaku he spent it on crap.

He set this club back 5 years minimum and apart from everything else the players didn't respect him. Everyone after he left came out and said he was a joke and let players do whatever they wanted to. There was no discipline and the players had no stamina. We used to conced in the last 15 minutes of every game. The reason we had a good away record (which wasn't even that good really) was because of the everton fans making it difficult for the players to play well at goodison. He said that! That the fans were the problem to his crap, boring, frustrating and ineffective "brand" of football.

It was our fault because we didnt like watching our team get spanked every week, we didn't like watching a keeper well past his sell by date throwing the ball into the back of his net every week, we didn't like our defenders doing cruff turns in the box, we didn't like a useless manager coming out every week in his post match press conference and blaming everyone else because he isn't man enough to take responsibility for anything.

He was a absolutely horrendous manager and the only reason people are looking fondly at him now is because of the crap we're watching now. Well I remember and I remember it being a hell of a lot worse.

The man was poison he ruined Wigan and he was one season away from ruining us. Don't kid yourselves lukaku, stones, Barkley, Baines and del were all ready to walk out if he hadn't of gotten sacked when he did. Lost all of throes players in one summer and he would of bought more crap like cleverly and mori and kone and alcaraz and mcgeedy and nassie and Rodriguez and Joel. Then were would we of been?

Literally every post you make is full of lies...

You're an absolute charlatan who posted a diatribe of hate against @davek and yet cant respond to others pointing out your clear lies in other threads.

Certainly an agenda here...though it's actually becoming disturbing and possibly worrying to read.
