The 2 years since Martinez left.

In other historic questions would it have been better for us if Harald Hardrada had defeated Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Stamford bridge in 1066?

(Well it's got to be more interesting than another Martinez thread ,)
Nah made no difference mate as Billy would still have snotted them both anyway mate.

Really? People forget so quickly, Martinez isnt and never was a good manager. Without Moyes’ defensive drilling of players, everything went to sh*t. Thats not the sign of a good manager. Id rather have BFS all day.
Some short memories indeed. We were hopeless under Moyes defending set pieces...over 11 seasons! The defensive "drilling" was in reality playing a 5 man midfield religiously and with a big lad up front to win headers. His defensive "drilling" seems t have deserted him too at his later clubs.

...i’m hoping that this is actually a phase of change that clubs go through. Often things get worst before they get better, a lot will hinge on finding the right manager/DoF infrastructure. The Reds wasted lots of money over seasons before getting things more efficient, even Man City took a while despite the massive wealth at their disposal.

That’s what i’m hoping anyway.

How this dope still has apologists on here is a complete mystery to me. This guy finished 11th and 13th playing some of the most ridiculous sideways football that was costing us goal after goal. His transfer record, save for a couple of notable exceptions, was utterly laughable. He had no bottle either, poor runs of form would turn into season killers as he simply didn't know how to stop the rot.

He could win the World Cup this summer for all I care, doesn't change the fact he would have relegated us if given the opportunity.

Andy Johnson was a big lad up front?

Bossing a very good Arsenal team all over the Emirates and pinning them back in their own half; setting up to murder them at Goodison. Dominating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before falling for a late winner from them; going all out to end our appalling record at OT and winning the game.

"No bottle".

You couldn't make this stuff up. If there's one thing Martinez could never be accused of its having no bottle in the way he approached games, especially against "the elite".

And got us down to 11th place in two successive seasons?
Even two deadbeats like Koeman and Allardyce hva managed better than that.

The last Everton Manager to be given the so called "3 years to get it right" timescale.
Since then we have-
lost both visits to Burnley,
both visits to Southampton,
both visits to Bournemouth,
both visits to Watford,
won neither trips to relegation haunted Swansea, failed to win this season at woeful West Brom failed to win last season at relegated Middlesbrough or terrible West Ham and have not beaten a top 7 side home or away this season in 14 attempts.
Clearly keep sacking managers isn't the answer and maybe with hindsight Martinez should have been given Moshiris' millions to get it right.

We’re absolutely awful and yet we’re still higher in the league than we were with him in his last 2 seasons.

What does that tell you

My comment was made about his inability to turn around rough patches of form, not his approach concerning how we went into games. In both his final two seasons when the team started to become unstuck it snowballed into a season killer. A manager who can't rectify a team's performance during a season is not a very good manager.

You can’t give Martinez credit for his 72 point year and not also give him blame for back to back 47 point seasons. One season like that, the worst point total in two decades, is one thing, but to do it twice is special. People complain about how bad this year is, yet Sam and Koeman are going to likely surpass 47 points. Think about that.
Sam will pass that and he has only been here since December
