Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

Hey Jeff,

Ever thought of loading up that Ferrari with your belongings and getting on a boat to anywhere in Britain never to return ?

Because that's where you belong if you're not prepared to live on this island in mutual cooperation and respect with the rest of us.
Not if it’s done by the bomb and bullet my friend.

Please, for the last time get this into your head, Pete:

THE UK WILL HAVE TO HAVE HARD BORDERS IN THE CASE OF A NO-DEAL IF THEY WISH TO TRADE UNDER WTO RULES.

We all understand this. However the U.K. has put in law that it will not do so. So at the moment, only the EU and ROI are insisting upon it. Unless of course both the ROI and the EU have put similar laws in place....

They are stating, as I always have on here, that this is the reality of a no-deal Brexit. Without a backstop there HAS to be a hard border. There is simply no way around this. Scroll back through my posts and see what I have written about this before today.

And predictably, you and other brexiteers are turning this around on the EU27. It is the UK that is leaving. It is the UK that is prepared to risk the peace and stability of a constituent part of the country. The EU is explicit in it's desire for the UK to remain. It's also explicit that should the UK leave, they must protect the EU27 interests over anything else. If they didn't, what point would there be to being in the bloc?

I think you are just making excuses for the behaviour of the EU and ROI. We are where we are, now it’s about what do we do......

In my simple mind, its plainly obvious that a no deal exit will create a hard border, in theory at least. Cos otherwise, there would have been a deal, of sorts.

No mate. The U.K. has put into law that there will not be a hard border, come what may. It is only the EU and the ROI who have not done so.......

That’s disgraceful tbh. The lad has said what he believes and because you do not agree then he should sod off. Who the hell do you think you are, this is peoples lives.....

There you go, steriotyping. Most of the killings have come from the south or southern wanting people’s.

Who's stereotyping?

What are you on about?

You literally said:

" I don’t want anything to do with the south, those of who do have murdered my friends."

I asked you to clarify because from what i read and others it seems here you are saying the entire south are murderers or sympathizers to murderers and thus you hate them all.

Stop trying to twist your hate.

Trying to explain it more or elaborating that it is fact makes your words even worse. You hated filled idiot.

Poor old Jeff. Still fighting a conflict that ended 20 years ago. It would make you weep.

This is why, people, NI can never truly move on from the past.

Because you lot keep threatening to go back to violence if you don’t get your way. Let’s be honest here. The only issue is whether or not violence will happen in NI. If it was a case of violence will happen in Dublin, then the politicians like Varadkar would have a very different view. It’s a disgrace......

Not quite, as Scotland would be crying why the NI gets special privileges. This would lead to questions with a far greater risk to the union than what happens with NI and brexit.

I also can't see how the Irish PM can say it will stay open either, as in the end that might lead to Ireland being asked to leave the EU if they have no control of a border with an outside territory. If everyone was happy to have an open border there wouldn't be a backstop to talk about.
The GFA opened up the border to no checkpoints

Brexit is going to close it

The backstop is there because Ireland doesn't trust the UK. It's as simple as that.

The UK has previous form on this with Ireland in only the last 100 years e.g. Home Rule, home rule for fighting in WW1
The UK used it's commercial and trading power to impoverish the country after we got our independence.
It also tried to stop us joining the EEC back in 1972 along with the UK

No one has threatened violence. Some have suggested there are those out there that might be angry and may look to stronger action but no one here suggested violence themselves..

More foolish words.

No surprise you would defend a guy who says he hates the entire southern part of Ireland.

It’s not foolish words. It has been the unspoken undercurrent from everything from Varadkar and the EU. Read back, even most of your mates allude to it. You just can’t face it or accept it. Violence is being threatened in NI but not in ROI........
