My point that you are missing isn't that firmino is guilty but that this is being allowed to drift into obscurity, it's been 7 days and the FA have said nothing about anything. The fact that no one has said anything about it is very telling. 7 days is a long time in the public eye and everyone apart from liverpool and everton will have forgotten this by now. Thats how the FA want it.
If this was the other way round it wouldn't of been out of the media.
There has been zero support from official means towards mason holgate in any form that I have seen.
If firmino has said something racist then he need punishing and if not then holgate needs to be educated on what is or is not acceptable to be said on or off the pitch. Tbh I dont understand why footballers dont have to go on racism and LGBT awareness courses, see as how influential footballers are in the society.
If Firmino said something racist he WILL be punished and there's no doubt of that. And if he didn't say it, Holgate will likely accept that he misheard him and shouldn't face any repercussions - if anything he should be lauded for reporting it to the ref before getting on with the game.
I think you're being a bit conspiratorial with your thinking. The FA will not and cannot sweep this under the carpet. No matter how long they leave it they will inevitably have to post their findings. In the days of 24hr football news, there is no way that this will not be picked up, whatever the verdict.
It's being discussed in football forums, podcasts and in the news on a daily basis - most sports columns are giving daily updates. Even the news of Firmino's contract extension, from what I've seen, has been punctuated by the charge hanging over him.
In terms of Holgate's twitter stuff. He should apologise and maybe offer to do some community/outreach work with LGBT groups. I don't think it's right for him to get any kind of punishment from the FA for it.
