Pre-season in Italy?

I was watching a ToffeeTV video and a john Bain said something about us going to Italy for pre season and then the subject was quickly changed.

To be honest, it came across as him saying it on purpose as a sort of smirk that they had inside info.

Has anyone else heard about a potential pre-season in Italy?

A friendly against Roma seems like an obvious possibility. Maybe nip across the border to Cannes?

Whilst I am not sure how serious your post is, I doubt that we would be playing teams like Inter Milan and Juventus, with Roma probably being the closest we would get to playing an opponent of that calibre.

If we do go to Italy, we would probably end up playing Roma, a bottom half Serie A or top half Serie B team and a friendly against Cannes would probably be thrown in to satisfy the owners. Although US tours tend to generate revenue, I have never really felt that they help us prepare properly for the season ahead, so I would welcome a trip to Italy.

Surely the Italy trip (if it exists) will just be the early pre-season high altitude training in the Alps.
