You thought naismith had a good game? Possibly the worst player on the pitch today along with barry.

Gave the ball away so many times and not one positive pass.

Lukaku should expect at least 1 pass into feet from the attacking midfielder...instead he has naismith passing into RS players and lukaku has to run his socks off all game.
worst player on the pitch ? staggering

Que? Should we have won this or not? Player to player?

Perhaps we should just scrap the league and just give the trophy to the team with the best players.

Athletico player for player are a million miles behind Madrid, but they have a certain hold over Madrid and Liverpool are the same with us. Given our recent form a defeat would have been so damaging. After arsenal the only top team we play are spurs. We need to be going into the easy run without a shattered confidence if we are to climb the league and maintain good form whilst we are still in the EL. We will likely lose to chelsea and two losses on the run would have the crowd on the teams back again.

Laughing at Martinez getting slated for dropping one of our worst players over the last few months

Barkley looked ok when he came on for 5 mins, Lets see him do it from the off when he starts a game then maybe he won't be benched

Liverpool players were still running past him and he only had 8 minutes on the pitch. someone needs to take this lad and tell him professional footballers do not play at a walk, the crowd have had enough of him.

Who would you have spent that exact same 34 million on instead that has moved clubs in the past 4 windows?

This baring in mind that you get perfect hindsight on form/injuries that is impossible in the real world.

Now you're being ridiculous expecting me to guess who we tried and failed to get, who we didn't try to get but would have been successful with and personal terms would have been agreed etc

But I'll play the silly hypothetical game of nonsense and tell you who you could have got for a lot less...just attacking wise

Lukas Podolski on loan (similar scoring ratio to Lukaku. Infact, last season, a lot better with Arsenal than what Lukaku has this season)

Callum McManaman (surprised Martinez didn't go for this especially when WBA got him - decent squad option, significantly younger than McGeady, better than him, and a Blue)

Shinji Kagawa £6 Million (I am a fan anyway)

Michu loan (seems to have flopped a bit in Italy but I am trying to be honest and imagine this game being played without the benefit of hindsight - ANd just coz he flopped for Napoil doesn't mean he'd have flopped at Everton. He has it in his locker.....he's proved it).

Lewis Holtby £5 Million

and Id still sign Dembele from Spurs and believe he will become available

These are just from the last 2 windows and are a darn sight cheaper and yet still more effective than Lukaku, NcGeady, Atsu , Lennon (will be) as a unit

Then you're still left with a pile of cash to replace Howard, Hibbert, Distin, etc with

....yep, he was poor but I think there's a lot of important stuff he does that is so important but not obvious. It really is a specialist position, I'd love Besic to play that role, he could be a real star but make no mistake it will take some learning.
His long passing is good when given time but there where times today that teammates where afraid to pass it to him because if someone is close he almost always gets caught. I think Martinez has to bite the bullet with this one and try and get him to join a MLS team in the summer. He was fantastic for us last season but his time has sadly passed. If Rodgers had the balls to move on Slippy we should Gaz Baz. There's nothing unseen that he does, he is what he is.

Well thats it for another year. my lads 1st derby so it could have been much worse. Haven't read the thread so I don't know the general mood but for me bobby hase gone ultra defensive which I suppose he had to do. 3 defensive midfielders is not gonna get too many pulses racing but we now look solid at the back. Im gonna watch live at pompeii. COYB

I'm not a fan of barkleys all action walking style, and when he get's 5 minutes at the end of a derby game and fans a shouting at him to run as he watches opponents, making his team mates (lukaku) run 20yds past him to try and close the player down while he just stands watching. if that's rubbish fine, I'm sure you have been impressed with his bench warming recently.
