Interesting concept.

It's a real thing  Tevez did it very well, and you may remember Toquero being a cult hero at Atletico doing the same thing - it's a player intended to break up the opposition rather than impose himself as a poacher. Cahill did it for us too, but we used two orthodox wide players and a striker beyond him under Moyes.

The idea with our system is to get Naismith doing that with Lukaku/Mirallas cutting in and being the "front two". Basically, its a striker who drops deep to mark and closes down constantly.

Still shaking after watching the game, i'll take a point, we were awful for the most time, but we didn't lose, and losin tonight would be catastrophic for morale of the team.

I think Gibbo needs to be playing in some of the next games, no matter how out of form he is, we badly need somebody who can pass a ball forward, we would've win if we had somebody like that on instead of Barry tonight.

We missed Barkley our three man midfield was too similar but we were obviously trying to close down the space for Coutinhio and Sterling, but that meant we didn't offer a lot going forward till the last ten mins. Shame really...

A few weeks ago I looked at the up coming games City,WBA,Palace,Liverpool and Chelsea, I honestly thought we would pick up 3 points out of the lot, I am betting a lot of you thought the same or worse

We have 6 points out of the first 4,we are unbeaten and have Chelsea to play, We have improved vastly since the 4 game losing streak that ended at Hull

Our defence looks solid again conceding 1 goal in the last 4, Its no surprise we are lacking up top when you see the calibre of player we have available coupled with Martinez prob looking to shore things up to steady the ship which imo was the right thing to do (Obviously Stones coming back is a major factor

We went into todays game playing the leagues form side, Going in naïve like we did at Anfield last season would have been suicide, He went safe, So what? There's plenty on here who [Poor language removed] the man off for not learning from previous mistakes

I know you're right, but I have at least an hour's fuming left before I accept it.

Defence we have improved now our attacking threat is non existent. We have the attacking threat in our ranks now please utilise it.

Utter meltdown more like.

Shots on target in 2015:
vs Liverpool: 1 (D)
vs Palace: 2 (W)
vs Brom: 4 (D)
vs City: 4 (D)
vs Hull: 3 (L)

Avg 2.8 shots on goal. We are not going to win hardly anything unless we are hitting the target more. If we lost and had 8 shots on target, i would see that as more progress. At the moment the problem is being covered up as we playing with 8 defensive players (inc goalie) on the pitch

Cant argue with that thpugh id have expected palace and wba wins.

Good run of form now and players coming back to form and fitness.

I think we will play the same at chelsea then martinez will slowly go more adventurous.

Positives:

- Keeping a clean sheet, really good and relieving that our back four and keeper are finally starting to play some solid football.

- Quite similar to above but Stones and Jags are really clicking and forming a solid partnership.

- Besic, he's such a good player has the attack of a yard dog and goes in for everything yet he's still got so much class, poise and smarts.

"The noteworthy"

- Joel doing another good job, didn't have a lot to do but did well when called a pon, thought he did so well to get to Sterling's ball to Ibe.

-McCarthy returning, was fantastic to see him back. Now we just need to see him and Besic play together to see how the can partner up.

- Lennon will be a good signing, whilst be won't set the world alight he'll be a fine pick up, works hard both ways and is super quick.

The Negatives

- Lack of support and service (or any real creativity at all) for Lukaku.

- Barkley not coming on until really late, should have been on at half time.

- Naismith and Barry's passing, Naisy was either killing the momentum by passing it backwards or sideways, booting it to a player a few yards away or turning it over. An attacking midfielder simply must be a good passer. Whilst Barry wasn't stringing together as many passes going forward as he should his biggest problem was a crappy pass in the back half which almost resulted in them scoring a couple of goals.

- I didn't really wanna mention it but I thought poor old Oviedo was really poor. Never should he be getting schooled by Jordan Ibe, how's he going to go if he has to play next week and line up on someone like Hazard?

Some credit please for Jordan Henderson, he is motoring up the league of utter utter melts that have played for Liverpool. I suspect the coming years of him as captain will speed up his arsehole ways - at least Gerrard had ability to back himself up
