Everton are small time...

I agree too. I've been worried that this process of finding the absolute best man for the job could be undone by Unsworth getting 4 good results/performances.

It'd be a dereliction of duty if we don't aggressively go after Tuschel in my option, giving Unsworth the job because he gets Everton and has done well at u23 level would be incredibly small time.

I'm not dead against Unsworth getting the job, but he wouldn't be one of my top 5 choices, regardless of the next three results.

I also worry that we are too sentimental that we will force ourselves into a corner by saying no to him if we win the next three games.

His preser the other day was fine, but I said at the time that he came across as a fella who thought he had the job if he passes this audition.

I also don't like all this Sky Sources have heard the players want Unsworth as does Kenwright, that's pathetic, Leicester players wanted Shakespeare and Spurs players wanted Sherwood. Even QPR players wanted Ramsey. It never works.

If we want to be big, we need to act big, get the best man for the job. You can't tell me Unsworth is a better manager than Dyche and I'd be massively underwhelmed with him.

They need to get this right after 2 disasters, I'd suggest the odds that the best man was already employed by the club would be huge, in much the same way Elstone got the job when Wyness left.

That sums it all up.

or are they?

I've been reading the Unsworth thread this morning and have to say I agree with the majority of what @orly has been eluding to, or at least I think he's been eluding to.

I'm a massive fan of David Unsworth as a person, who knows I might even be a huge fan of his managerial ability in a few games, but who knows. He's saying all the right things, using all the usual buzzwords about history, big club etc, but there's something that bothers me about it. It's bordering on a scripted theatrical performance that Bill Kenwright has written. I mean he said all that and then played a CB pairing of Jagielka and Williams and an utterly useless Rooney.

We've just lost and been knocked out of the cup but there's the tweet @orly highlighted celebrating a debut and the return of the ginger fella with a nationality disorder. I can't think of another top club that deals with this sort of stuff in the same small time cringey way as Everton. We over hype minor events, we team up with Umbro, SportPesa and Angry Birds and that's before we even get to the kitbag deal.

Why would an organisation that has an ounce of sense keep Bill Kenwright and Robert Elstone around? You could argue that it's a transitional period but it would appear that they have just as much involvement at the club now as they did before Farhad came along, if not more.

We have grand ambitions, or so we're told, but everything about how we communicate via social media and the deals we sign suggest anything but that. The twitter reads like some die hard blue that refuses to hear a bad word said about the club, rather than a professionally run club employing a social media expert.

If we truly are serious about being a big club then we need to knock this stuff on the head and start behaving like a professional outfit.
Re this “Imean he said all that and then played a CB pairing of Jagielka and Williams and an utterly useless Rooney.” It was a midweek game at the home of the Champions following a crushing defeat and a vital game at Leicester coming up, Ill judge his team selection more after Sunday.
I agree about the Kenwright stuff, and it becomes a bit worrying to hear Unsy say “ I talk to the Chairman two or three times a day”. Why ? What will he learn from Bill re team tactics/ selection in a period where he’s got enough on his hands .

Yeh but we have a billionaire owner so money isn’t as tight as it once was. I’m not trying to be obtuse I’m just putting my opinion accross. Within our league teams like city and Chelsea are chopping and changing their managers often as well so should we do that as they’re successful. Teams like united tried to get the ‘best of the rest’ in Moyes and that didn’t work for them but for spurs it did with Potchettino. Then you’ve got Eddie Howe and Dyche at Bournemouth and Burnley who have achieved major success in a relative manner for the job at hand. Ultimately putting a manager in charge is a gamble, so to say any appointment is small time and use that as a negative Just doesn’t make sense.

fair enough mate, i agree virtually all the candidates are gambles

maybe we just need to get on board of the over boyled, over hyped, scripted love machine that is David Unsworths everton.

People have gone on about goodison being toxic, a negative mentality and things such as expected defeats.

It may be cheesy, it may be corny, but surely if the players and fans can all get on board with it, will it not be a good thing?

I've been to watch the likes of Dortmund, Celtic and Ajax, there fans are ott, they claim it to be a love affair, they are cheesy and a little bit cringe, but it works, it builds a connect amongst the fans and players.

Fair point.

Agree 100%
If Moshiri is indeed intent on getting us to the top table then things and values from the foundation will have to change.
I’ve seen us win cups , league titles and European glory.
I’ve even seen us win derbies.
Back then the NSNO and the school of science meant something and was adhered to
If you weren’t good enough you were gone.
Someone mentioned Tony Hibbert and the fact he cost us 4 m for 12 games.
Why ??
Because that charlatan Kenwright wouldn’t put his hand in the clubs pocket and pay for a replacement
The same way we have deadline day deals Why ??
To save 3 months wages.
When Moshiri sacked Bobby and went out of his way to get Koeman I thought things would change
When Hibbert and Osman did not get new contracts I thought things would change.
When the new ground was mooted I thought things would change
When Koeman called out Kenwright over the Schnederlin transfer and Moshiri told Kenwright to get it done I thought things had changed
When we spent Big and early in the transfer window I thought things had changed.
When we failed to deliver the CF and CB to the squad I knew things hadn’t changed because Kenwright and Suntan Bob are still there with their poisonous Small time plucky Everton attitude.
Moyes was never sacked because Kenwright had a manager on good money who was prepared to bargain basement shop.
It was cheaper to pay Moyes big money than spend 10 Times as much on transfers
On a few occasions under Moyes we were 3/4 players away from being top 4
What happened ??
Kenwright sold players to pay off the dodgy loans to his buddies
If Moshiri is serious about bringing this club on he will need to get ruthless
All the signings so far have made sense on paper.
Even Martina was a third choice RB behind Holgate and Kenny ( or so we were led to believe ) until Coleman came back.
Rooney raised the profile of the club and if we had got the striker in he would have been an impact sub and cup starter , so that made sense.
Moshiri now needs to show steel again.
If we have any ambitions to get Usmanov in then he needs to be ruthless
Get a top manager in who will gut the squad and attract top quality players.
We are 2/3 players away from having a team that could get top 5/6.
I have great time for Unsworth and loved him as a player
He’s done a fantastic job as a youth team manager but in my opinion he’s not good enough yet to manage the first team.
If Barkley now signs and Coleman and Bolassie are back around Christmas that’s 3 straight into the first 11
Add the CB ( starter not cover ) to play alongside Keane and a top rate striker , 70/80 m then that’s 5 straight into the first 11
The likes of Lennon , Mirallas , Jags Williams , McCarthy, Bescic ( sorry Morgsgoat ) Martina and others need to be got rid of and only players who will get into the first 11 bought.
A first 11 of

Pickford

Coleman Keane New CB. Baines

Schnederlin Barkley

Vlasic / Lookman Siggy. Bolassie

New CF

will cause all but the top 2/3 problems.
I had great expectations of Moshiri and he lived up to them in the first 6 months but now it’s time to bear his teeth
Sack Kenwright and Elstone.
Bring in hard nosed buisness professional.
Hire a top quality manager and once and for all get rid of this sentimental crap of he’s a blue , he’s one of us.
Martinez for all his faults got us 5th
Koeman who I supported because of his lack of sentiment got us back on track first season in and neither were blue.
Do city Chelsea or united hire ex players as manager because he gets them and they are one of them
They do in their
They hire the best man for the job and if he gets rid of a few stalwarts well that’s tough titty , that’s life.
I’m sick of Boys pen Bill urinatimg on my back and telling me it’s raining
It’s a buisness wether we like it or not and sentimentality has no place in buisness

Only former blues ever won trophies for us as manager.

Only former blues ever won trophies for us as manager.
And with all due respect that’s all in the past and sentimental
Which former blue do you think could attract the quality of player we need to push on
Which former blue had the managerial credentials to take us to the next level.
So you wouldn’t take Jose, Pep ,Simeone or Someone of that ilk because they never play for us but you would have Phillip Neville as manager because he’s a blue and he gets us.
Again with all due respect it’s that attitude that has us were we are and not up there with Chelsea City ,United , Spurs Arsenal and the RSfightimg for top 6
It’s a global game now and we need a global appeal manager

I love that stat as much as the next guy but football was different then, a lot of managers had played for the club they manage at one point or another. It's only in the last 20 years or so we've seen foreign managers in the league.

Tell me what you want me to do Mr Bungle.

I am IN.

The thing is about Rhino is that we know everything he said is true - his love for the club and the fans is genuine, no matter how scripted it may sound. If Kenwright wasn't about, he would be saying the same things.

I am not sentimental though - we need a good manager in - but I think the club should at least insist he is Assistant Manager. With his dedication to the club over the years, and his nurturing the U23's the way he has, he's earned that much surely?

In the cut-throat business that is footy these days, his love for our beloved blues is real, and surely we should celebrate and appreciate that?
Do you think a top class manager will accept being told who his assistant is going to be.
He will want his own right hand man in , a man who he knows and trusts not someone who he will perceive as wanting him to fail so he can have his job
