Everton are small time...

Agree 100% about the small time nature of the club, still. After all the hype of the last 18 months it's clear we are not emerging from the pack to join the elite. It was a nice story but without foundation. So now we know we are pretty much back to where we were pre spring 2016.

However, I'd decouple that from the Unsworth issue.

The initial turn to Unsworth shouldn't be seen as part of all that. He's a coach who stands every bit as much chance of reviving this season to something more respectable as any incoming manager. The players like and trust him and will want to do their best for him. So actually it probably makes perfect sense to go with him at least until the new year. He's a capable coach at a level below first team and we'll only ever know if he's up to the transition to first team level if we try it.

The superstar manager bingo hasn't served us well. I dont see going with one of our own as a step backward in that respect.

I agree no more `fancy pants jonny foreigner` managers please farhad ............

We will have a torn fan base.

One side who want us to go out all guns blazing, throw millions in just so we compete and maybe start winning stuff again and couldn't give a shiny one if the manager "gets us".

The other side think it is not the correct way to behave and believe all managers should have played at least 500 games for the club and have the words "Everton" tattooed on their arse cheeks.

The club took the professional approach and brought a manager in from outside. The manager issue is one thing, but yes the club is still appearing to be run like Bill's "play thing".
We are still in the "clap clap clap" era and will be until Kenwright lets go of his train set. Feel sorry for Unsworth having to work with him...

man city and chelsea the big success stories of recent times did not even consider appointing 'one of their own'

You sure about that mate?

I often wonder if he employed the same sentimentality in his theatre business? i doubt it as he was successful..he doesnt see everton as a business or even a project to make successful, its his warm, cosy place to have some fun and indulgence..

If his entire time with Everton was condensed in to a broadway musical it wouldnt last one day after the critics&paying public were exposed to it...sad thing is, as genuine toffees fans we are still swallowing this tripe and accepting it as standard... :-(

People are pleased by the improvement after Unsworth has worked with the squad for 2 days. If you didn’t see an improvement in our performance last night then either you don’t understand football or you haven’t been paying attention this season.

He would be only become our permanent manager if he proves himself. There’s nothing ‘small time’ about making him permanent if he does well.

However, it’s massively ‘small time’ to not consider him permanently for fear of appearing ‘small time’!
The first half was dire, I understand the statement to contain for an hour but again it back fired as we had to come out and chase the game.
If it would have been the league game again I could have understood the reasoning but against a team that hadn't played as a unit we should have gone on the front foot from the start.
The improvement second half was pleasing but it had to happen anyway as we were out otherwise.

The rah rah from Unsy is what we need right now, meaning probably until around Xmas. We should get a little bit of a bounce from it - it'll lighten the mood around the club, the players, supporters - everyone. It's refreshing given the shocking demise of everything under Koeman. Also, Moshiri had grand plans to come out firing with a "big name" manager and wound up making a big mistake with Koeman. Sure, he had the credentials, but in retrospect he wasn't a good fit for Everton. So what now? I'd presume Moshiri is taking a step back and taking a measured approach to the next hire. It's all ebbs and flows.

Bobby allowed us to dream again, but ultimately he had no clue how to win games. But our ceiling was high with him. The kneejerk is to get the opposite of him, which we did, but we found that floor was lower than we could have imagined. We need to find a big-time manager that truly understands Everton, appreciates our history (like Bobby did), while being the appropriate amount of pragmatic (like Koeman wanted to be) and relishing taking on the current big boys. Chelsea and Man City went through this. And it wasn't overnight, it just feels like that to us now.

If Unsworth gets the job, then the club consider him to be the best man for the job.

He's built a very good reputation at the club for his work, notably the PL2 title last season, and whilst he shouldn't get the gig out of sentimentality, to assume that's the prime reason he's being considered for the role is disrespecting the work the man has done at EFC.

There's nothing 'small time' about him being considered for the full time role, the mentality of some Blues is becoming cringeworthy imo.

The misalignment of expectation at clubs now, such a divide between reality and where they think the reality is.SEAN DYCHE'S words from his press conference today.Very appt for quite a few fans who post on here

Just when I felt things were looking up the positivity is drained away!! No one in their right mind would have fancied us to win last night. Chelsea played a weakened side as did we. Willian would walk into our first team, morata came off the bench, that is Chelsea’s ‘weakened’ team.

We played very well second half, we actually looked like a team that knew what they were doing. We should have won, gutted that we haven’t but at least we didn’t fold like we did against arsenal and Lyon and spurs, I could go on.
Unsworth won the u23 league last year, something no previous manager has done, but apparently because he had 5 England u20s (of which 2 were in the 1st team) it was a piece of cake? (I read that on here the other day) His appointment wouldn’t be sentimental he would have some credibility and his knowledge of the club is something that can benefit us. Look at his treatment of Barkley for instance, we would be weaker without him yet people were saying they wouldn’t mind him going because Koeman backed him into a corner and Managed him in a terrible way. No Unsworth is there he is looking for him.

We need to understand that as ‘small time’ as the appointment would seem, sometimes it’s not about buying the best out there and expecting results, it’s about nurturing what we have. Surely we should be best at seeing that after this summers dealings?
