when hes gone people will be saying everton need to find the next cahill
I would say the opposite. The only reason we were in that mess was because we had no ideas, creativity or penetration. I attribute that to us using the same tactics and formation that we've been using for years. Which Cahill is a major part of. Teams knew how to defend against us, and bar set pieces, weren't in any real danger of conceding.
It's not always as simple as saying "without Cahill's goals" because that implies that if he'd not played we'd have done everything the exact same bar score. Which is nonsense. Without him we adapted, and we adapted very well. So well we climbed to 7th, which at one point seemed impossible.
But enough. I'm going in circles here. I think I've made my stance clear; I love Cahill, but no man is bigger than the team, and we should put out the best XI to do the job each week, not our favourite XI.

FFS. I said enough and I mean it but I've just got to say one thing: against DC.
Cahill isn't good enough to play there against prem opposition.
OK, now I'm out.![]()
No mate. Just.....no
You can't write off an attacking mid with a goalscoring record like his that easily in my opinion. Especially when he does an awful lot of the combative work further up the pitch than our holding mids, winning back second balls and generally scaring the bejesus out of defences, making them hurry and breaking up their rhythm.
Only Yak is powerful enough to hold us back. I saw him after training once and he got in his car to drive off but it wouldn't start, so he got out, went to the back, threw it home and got a taxi.
Cahill is one of our most important players imo and he's going to play a vital role in our gateceashing of the top four next season, at least that's what Bill Kenwright told me in Disney world.
Timmy is a god. He's on the FIFA12 cover with shrek n kaka ffs!!

Not for me lets be honesthere, hes up there with the likes of any midfeilder and most strikers in PL in terms of goals, its how you view him really he doesnt have a set position hes a midfeilder/striker and the end product he brings to the game is unbleiveable, you can never dismiss his leadership qualites, desire, nuisance factor for other teams, he has the ability to set the tempo of thegame as well with his hurly burley style.
I know the point poeple are trying make, but its not about Cahill for me its more about the system and lack of pace on the break for me, tbf to him he scored more then any of our strikers in half a season then they did in a full one. Thtas a hell of an impact to take out of a team.
I believe that we play better football and are a better team without Cahill in the starting lineup. He acts as a target man when playing and too much focus is on finding him and that acts as a hinderance to our team. Apart from his goals he doesn't offer much else and I feel that Osman or Bilyaletdinov are better players in his position to encourage good football.
A natural response would be.... look at the goals he scores. But the problem is that when he is scoring, no-one else is, which is because of the style we play when he plays. Yes he has been an iconic figure for the club, but I genuinely think he holds us back when playing. Perhaps we should put him up front again if we need to incorporate him in the team, but in midfield it is a position wasted as he doesn't have the technical ability to make us play to the ability we are capable of.
