The way I see it, they've sought to suppress it to allow the NHS to cope. At some stage, they need to begin easing the lockdown, don't they?
They were always going to ease lockdown gradually and in stages.
It was always going to be conditional and reactive to what's happening.
What did people expect? Lockdown until a possible vaccine? Or one day the whole UK would just go back to how it was?
If the government are wrong, what else should they do? People say "stay locked down for a bit longer", but until when? What are you measuring?
It also seems the people who were screaming "Europe is locking down, its a disgrace the UK isn't!" aren't now saying Europe should be followed in easing the lock down.
Really? I am just trying to conjure up what you might have been saying at this stage had the police and army really been patrolling the streets...
No response then?
Should never have been announced at 7PM on a Sunday night. Utterly shambolic decision. Apparently public transport in and around London was rammed this morning. You can bet that the same thing happened in all major cities in England.
They should have got the detail defined and released to the public and employers a week in advance, not 12 hours and in such a wooly, confusing manner.

It’s the constant miss communication that is the issue.
From first lockdown to this they are failing to communicate what rules they want the public to follow.

That doesn’t explain how labour caused it.
Good grief schools can't manage a head lice outbreak let alone a child with possible COVID19 being asymptomatic...Schools here have been open for the last 4 weeks to allow daycare for children of people still at work. No teachers, but the teaching assistants/supervisors like my girlfriend are there in masks. The head teacher told her not to even bother trying to keep a bunch of 6 year olds apart. Just keep washing your hands and wear a mask.
And here it is, common sense police are at the ready, stay alert, the face make mask will now become essential after previously being useless...

100%.
The only things the government have said could now be done are things I've seen people doing for weeks. Maybe the allowance to travel a distance is the only substantive change.
People say the stay at home message needs to be retained, but people are out and about all the time over the last few weeks.
We need to move forward to gradually relaxing things. We can't stay in this situation for the long term or we risk economic hardship on a scale not seen in generations. The problem is we need proper details from the government today and I'm not sure we'll get them.
There are no easy answers or perfect solutions to this horrible disease.
