Hopefully wearing masks in all public places won't be obligatory. I know that wearing a cheap mask for an extended period of time isn't good for me. If I leave some covering on long enough, I won't breath well; I am re-breathing too much of my own exhaled carbon dioxide, ie. insufficient oxygen, and the resulting eventual trapped moisture invites unhealthy bacteria. This is basic biology. So why should I be required by an uneducated government to wear a mask for all purposes outside? Even WHO made it clear that this is actually counter productive.

I would agree the obligation for people who have to stay close to each other for a long period of time though.

Well we are an ok run country, with a pretty epic health system as well. France isnt exactly 3rd world neither. It does seem odd.
Would disagree on that, especially on the handling of this. And the nhs is boss but can’t deny it’s been stretched thin over the years, wasn’t there a report a few years ago saying as much that it would struggle with this sort of crisis. France tbh I’ve not paid attention to what they’re doing .

The countries with the best results seems to be the ones that have aggressively pursued test and trace alongside an early stricter lockdown.

The coutries that have been proactive and invested in healthcare over a number of years have better numbers, they haven't used the same tactics but generally they have some similar themes

So China is the best run healthcare then, because their numbers are lower than Germany ?....

The USA are testing millions, but the deaths keep rising. In a population, if 100,000 have the virus, and we know that the medical provision of most Western countries is of a similar standard, then really you would expect a similar death toll. Unless you are treating patients differently, which they are not....If they had some magic bullet every other country would be all over it, and yet......
Here in the US we still aren’t testing as many as Germany relative to our respective populations though which is a more important metric than raw numbers.

When you test is also important - do you test when the person shows up in the hospital in an ambulance very sick and has already passed it on to vulnerable members of their family or do you do it early, perhaps even prior to symptoms developing?

The bolded bit isn’t accurate either - 100,000 70 year olds are going to have a vastly different death rate than 100,000 25 year olds. The demographics and base health of the infected population matter greatly,

I agree that the Germans seem to be doing something different but it doesn’t seem to be down to classification of deaths because you’d still see a rise in “all cause” deaths which doesn’t appear to be the case. Germany has a much higher % of icu beds than other European nations iirc - perhaps that is making a difference along with early case identification?

Errr, did you not see Italian emergency wards on tv!
Its clear to anyone without an agenda that deaths spike once the heathcare system is overrun as Italy's was so sadly. The statement it doesn't matter how many ventilators you have is absolutely the biggest load of rubbish I've read today, and I read @OnlyBlueWillDo 's conspiracy theories

Are you both discussing whether this has come from a market or a lab?
It's come from the Lab in Wuhan, I'll drag my posts up in a few months when the American's prove it.

There are wide reports the market doesn't even sell bats to eat, it's a cover up by the Chinese Govt, they are going to get severely sued in the international courts over this, trillions in compo if it's proved to have originated from one of their labs, best they say it was from a market then eh?

This where a level of judgement and common sense should be applied to ask what’s reasonable exercise compared to the potential risks?

Could I use your argument that I want to cycle to Moel Famau (43mi), walk up it and then cycle back? I’d personally that would be far from reasonable.
The bit in bold

The bit in bold
According to the document, meant to inform police officers enforcing the lockdown, the following are examples of reasonable excuses to be outside the home:
  • Buying several days’ worth of food, including luxury items and alcohol.
  • Collecting surplus basic food items from a friend.
  • Going for a run or cycle or practicing yoga.
  • Walking in the countryside or in cities.
  • Attending an allotment.
  • Driving to countryside and walking (where far more time is spent walking than driving).
  • Stopping to rest or to eat lunch while on a long walk.
  • Buying tools and supplies to repair a fence panel damaged in recent bad weather.
  • Taking an animal for treatment.
  • Moving to a friend’s address for several days to allow a ‘cooling-off’ following arguments at home.
An explanatory note says:
The Regulations allow people to move house. This means that individuals can move between households. But this should be a genuine move (ie. measured in days, not hours).
Examples of excuses that are not reasonable include:
  • Buying paint and brushes, simply to redecorate a kitchen.
  • Driving for a prolonged period with only brief exercise.
  • A short walk to a park bench, when the person remains seated for a much longer period.
  • A person who can work from home choosing to work in a local park.
  • A person knocking on doors offering to do cash in-hand work.
  • Visiting a vet’s surgery in person to renew a prescription (where this could be done over the phone).
  • Visiting a friend in their address or meeting in public to socialise.

Better than an old badge.

Where did you see this? I'm old and live in France and would like to know. As far as I'm concerned, come mid-May, if Macron can produce masks for everyone as he promised, I'll risk going out and about in uncrowded places. I can't contemplate getting back to a full social life again until a vaccination is offered.

It was on BFM TV earlier ;-)

Macron has recommended that all elderly people and people with high risks ie medical groups stay in confinement after May 11th like now and let others go out so Experts for rights for elderly are saying its ageism as older people can be healthier than young etc and in french legislation, its not allowed for only the elderly to be confined even if Macron thinks its for their best ;-) As for vaccine, no one has idea when that will occur ;-(
