Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

I think this largely counts for a lot of things these days. People create their own echo chambers , even on here.

The western population are brainwashed, information is controlled, withheld, twisted to a narrative and people heavily using social media then trigger their algorithms to keep only seeing the same viewpoint.

Just look at the Israel conflict where even language is manipulated in reports. How many people genuinely thought trump would walk this election, because clearly in real life voters weren't voting Harris, all because they were so used to seeing their own opinions each day? Many other issues that are treated as right and wrong , even such as the trans debate. People see their own opinion, they just don't see the majority disagreeing with their viewpoint by design.

Everyone is brainwashed, what makes it so scary is that people will argue and defend the information fed to them without realising it was planted there for them to think. Anything they don't get from their information source must be lies/fake/propaganda. No wavering in their opinion, their opinion is right.

She's right

She may be right but, honestly, how is the POTUS responsible for a massive outbreak of avian flu that has driven the price of eggs and chicken through the roof? Would such an explanation suffice for voters? The answer is clearly no.

She talked about price gouging. She talked about doing what is possible to cut costs for everyday items, including prescription drugs. Didn't matter. The rage machine was gonna rage and voted for the guy who flat out told them he's going to increase those costs and his czar of government cost-cutting told everyone who doesn't make high six-figures they would have to go through pain.

That feels unfair. In the main, people vote to improve their owns lives. If you can't or won't acknowledge that need, they won't vote for you..

Being intelligent does not correlate with being more electable.
They vote for what they THINK will improve their own lives. Problem is, there are so many low information voters that they end up voting against their own interests. Elon Musk literally said his plans will mean Americans having to endure economic hardship under a second Trump administration. RFK Jr. is planning to do away with vaccines and outlaw fluoride in drinking water. How will that improve their lives? The ONLY thing Trump offers them is that he makes life worse for the people they hate. IMO that is a sad reflection on society at large if that many people view life as a zero sum game where someone else’s suffering makes their life better.

On pretty much everything (immigration/law and order/gender/race/freedom of speech/economics) are way to the left of your average voter.

Until they can learn to articulate sensible centrist policies (and not what the left think centrist is) they haven’t got a chance.
1) I think everyone on here would say Democrats in the US are more right than your typical left-centre party in Europe. So yes, they are centrist.

2) As for your points
- Immigration. Democrats are where Reagan and Bush 2 were on this. So no, not way to the left. The GOP and right wing media have stoked fear to make it seem like this. Secondly, Democrats tried to pass bipartisan legislation to crack down on the border, shot down by Trump sychophants
- Law and Order? You mean just law and order for non-whites. Trump has broken a myriad of laws, their own people broke a myriad of laws on Jan 6, and they respected such law and order they killed cops. So no, I wouldn't call Democrats "way to the left of your average voter"
- Gender - I guess in this crazy world we live in where this is even a talking point, Democrats are farther left of the average voter. Another nothingburger that affects nobody's life.
- Race - Ooh this is a good one. Please explain what you mean by this.
- Freedom of speech. How are the Democrats restricting freedom of speech, in the legal sense? Huh? Be specific. Like how have far right trolls been silenced?
- Economics - Ah, here we go. When given a blind taste test, most Americans agree with centre-left Democratic policies. What do you mean by far left Democratic policies? Universal health care? Like everywhere else in Western society?

Good god

Anyone who convinced themselves Harris and the Dems were going to walk this learned absolutely nothing from 2016.

2016 taught me that all bets are off with orange man and his cult.

I didn't have confidence that it wouldn't end up like this. They've already proven half of the nation is stupid once before, of course history can repeat itself.

Be surprised if Russia won't insist in at least autonomy-handing over for all the areas historically part of Novorissiya

Which is becoming smaller by the day, it's also ultimately bleeding them dry of their better equipment and trained personnel. But yeah it's pretty much the only card they have

Depends on Trump's stance and who he has in the administration, if he fills it with neocons then it's a different conversation entirely to if they are kept out the discussions.

What his stance will be on NATO full stop is the even bigger question longer term. His focus has always been on China as the biggest threat to US primacy (correctly so)

Be surprised if conversations don't start very soon behind closed doors at least.

Ultimately only time will show the effects of the election, all the above is just speculation ofc.

As I've said though I'm not doing cartwheels as Trump is very much unpredictable in the worst meaning of the word so it's anyones guess what it means for anything outside ofc of his unlimited support for Israel.
No doubt yesterday was a good day for Russia and a terrible day for the rest of the World.

I'm sure that your media will be glorying in Putin's lap dog winning the election

The exact same inflation is happening north of the border and it's going to result in a change of government in the exact same way.

People are angry that their money isn't going as far as it used to. That's entirely reasonable.

They stop at educating themselves on who is actually responsible for it and just blame whichever politician is in power.

I don't know how you educate the willfully ignorant.

All of this is spot on.

And with respect to the bolded, this truly is how so many people think here.

I know many people on this thread disagree with this. But for those of us living in the US, seeing decades of Fox News infiltrate the minds of our friends, family and others, this is the case for so many of them. The thought is at least if I can't make my life better, I can exact some form of revenge/control/whatever by making the Libs cry

What a result. Wow. And a popular vote too. Red tsunami came few years late then.
Key points.
1. Pelosi drove Biden away
2. Failed assasination attempt
3. Harris was DEI hire
4. Squirrels
5. Latinos and Amish went for Trump

👌

I let myself be optimistic because people's stupidity could be explained in a number of ways in 2016, all while noting that Trump was not a known quantity to some at the time and many Republicans even thought he'd "grow into the role"

So many people in his own party came out against him this time. So many people saw what he did re: Jan 6. So many people have had to listen to his asinine ramblings for another 4 years. I just really thought sanity would win out, despite running a woman of color.

Boy, was I wrong. What a country
