They need checking and defeating the GOP under the MAGA crowd. No question of that. Their destruction of Roe v Wade has been an appalling setback for Americans. But the way to defeat them is to be smart and analyse where you lost it in terms of domestic and foreign policy issues. One conclusion that must be drawn is that you dont alienate a whole part of the population like the Arab Americans and the youth vote around colleges etc who were all appalled by the pro-Israeli stance on Gaza (and a lot of other minorities felt strongly about Gaza as an issue too).

In 2028 whomever is the Democratic nominee they better have a better story to tell those people or they'll suffer another beating.

Putting all the focus on safeguarding democracy rather than the economy is probably right at the top.

Hold on mate. I detest Trump and his ilk, but you cant portray this as good v evil.

The Democrats spun a lot of stuff in that election and the use of the nazi/fascism stuff was off the charts OTT....and that's not even going near foreign policy decisions on Gaza they took under Biden that will go down in history as one of the crimes of the century against humanity.

It's a fantasy to see those two parties as progressive v regressive.

That feels unfair. In the main, people vote to improve their owns lives. If you can't or won't acknowledge that need, they won't vote for you..

Being intelligent does not correlate with being more electable.

I’d agree with this. I was hopeful that Harris might just hold out, but knew it was on a knife edge and did think she had ran a really poor campaign.

Regardless of whether or not it was Biden’s fault, it was always going to be rough for the incumbent (I know he’s not Harris, but her being his VP was always a problem) with the levels of inflation and the wars which have began during his term.

Probably not . Probably too simplistic but what does it tell us about Americans that are prepared to put perceived personal financial interest as more important than putting someone like Trump back into the White House.

In fact, compared to Europe, Democrats are essentially a centrist party

On pretty much everything (immigration/law and order/gender/race/freedom of speech/economics) are way to the left of your average voter.


Until they can learn to articulate sensible centrist policies (and not what the left think centrist is) they haven’t got a chance.

Centrist in the US is surely much further to the right of what that is here/Europe. Perhaps the Democrats need to lean further to the right than they think they need to do occupy more of that centre ground.
