The democratic base clearly isn't enough to win the presidency, the senate, etc.
Yes it is though. The issue is they need to galvanise people who are their base *even if they do not realise it*

You will consistently see non-partisan progressive ballot measures do well even in deep red states, the democrats need to stop being such a blatantly establishment party and start providing a strong progressive platform with incredibly popular measures such as universal healthcare.

Not that I’m sure it matters that much now though, I’m bluntly not sure the US will have another election.

I found it funny that the media thought "preserving democracy" on the exit polls meant votes for Kamala, when many people on the right are clearly frustrated with the Democrats' censorship and electing Kamala undemocratically as their nominee.
That was what I thought. It was just as much a protest at 'the steal' as voting for an end to disunity.

It shows the mindset of the media that they think everyone believes in the 'democracy' myth.

FFS just as if choosing between 2 elites is a choice of any meaning.

An intersection of many things. There is this increasing narrative that Democrats do nothing for the working class, and this is a recent narrative since traditionally the working class has been the base of Democrat support. It is also pretty clear that Kamala Harris didn't resonate well with swing-voters. The issues of the economy and taxes loom large and this was better emphasized by Trump (or so it seems). And while Republicans are largely a united party on issues, the Democrats are more like a coalition, so people opt in/out to vote on issues (e.g., the middle east). There are probably other reasons as well, but one that remains massively puzzling (speaking as someone who finds Trump utterly repulsive and corrupt) is Trump's charisma and cult-like support among his base.

I will note with some surprise that KH didn't even win the popular vote. I anticipated it being closer (@emir was correct about the popular vote).
3 ways Democrats screwed up.

1. Rallying with warmongers like Liz Cheney.
2. Bringing celebrities to rallies and thinking they resonate with the common man
3. KH insulting God and telling her supporters off when they shouted "Jesus is King"
4. Overall KH is a DEI hire.

At some point Democrats will realise that running on a lunatic extreme left platform will never win them votes.

The country is far closer to Joe Manchin (who is probably the political centre in America) than to Kamala Harris and yet the party will never go for someone like him.

They will continue to lose until they figure this out.
There is nothing lunatic extreme left about the platform Democrats ran on

In fact, compared to Europe, Democrats are essentially a centrist party

Obvious to who? It was only obvious when he tried to debate him. I don’t know the fella personally, those closer to him failed in their duties to disclose his declining mental state as much as anyone else.

I feel like there has been a death in my close family today, not sure why - it’s mad how apprehensive you become about politics in my advancing age. I’ve not spoken to a single American mate since last night and my virtual office space is practically empty. It’s a tough one this.

Mate he was on camera repeatedly doing stuff people do not do with a fully working mental capability.

Twice at a minimum he thanked people in attendance who were dead. Got mixed up on politicians names when recalling the past - by a decade or more in some cases. He was reading the prompts out loud on autoques. He constantly wandered around and needed people to go pull him back the right way - going past waiting cars, walking the wrong way off stage. He would lose his train of thought mid sentence or it'd turn into word soup.

Was very very clear he was in mental decline, and anyone whose been around dementia saw all the warning signs.

Yeah, maybe they learned their lesson from 2016 and didn't want to come across a backlash.

That second paragraph though, the flip flop from 'Yes, it is perfectly fine for a celebrity to have an opinion and voice it' to 'No, how dare a celebrity have an opinion and voice it' is astounding.
They were supporting a candidate proven to be a useless loser already. Now they've ostracised themselves from half of their fans by backing a lame horse. Harris hasn't even had the grace to give a concession speech yet - terrible! I thought she was supposed to be so much better than Trump.

You only hold this opinion if you subscribe to gender stereotypes. There’s been loads of powerful matriarchal queens over the years. I bet you Queen Victoria never got called a giggling schoolgirl.
I’ve only seen you calling her a giggling schoolgirl so I’m not sure it’s a widely held view or not. I think the trait you don’t like about Harris is her femininity.

Republicans have won the war over truth and information. The alternate reality they’ve curated since the early 1990s - that has won out. They have successfully created a situation where for many people, they will never vote for a Democrat for any number of fantastic reasons

Things will have to get really really bad here for many to vote Democratic nationally again.

How on earth has American politics got to a point where someone telling a pack of lies about Haitian immigrants eating cats wins a landslide victory.
