Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

I think it's more likely to make them more desperate and seek answers from less mainstream/traditional politics.

It might explain why people are willing to vote for Trump rather than a well educated career politician..
Maybe.
But they appear unreachable with reason

Heard somewhere that the lack of a social safety net in the US has created a lot of selfishness among people, grounded in fear. Makes them easy to manipulate but also difficult to reach with empathetic arguments. Self-centred rhetoric from the narcissist in chief appears to resonate more with them.

It seems to me, suffering consequences for their decisions might be the only way to realise it, but then they'll be primed to blame someone else, just like this time.

they think they won, but they definitely did not.

She was a WOEFUL candidate.

Be honest, for just a moment. You would never have picked her. You just wanted Blue no matter who, and anyone but Trump.

Dont blame a majority for seeing how bad she was with their own eyes and ears.

Woeful
I really don’t know what a good candidate looks like tbh, basically everyone is bad win or lose apparently. It’s like Barack Obama was a good candidate and everyone who isn’t that sucks.

To me the party is broken. No one short of an Obama level politician could fix this.

Saying I have no idea what living somewhere could be like: 'None' completely rules out any sort of empathy.

A strange take IMO.

Especially given that the UK and US are culturally very close. Far right populism is a thing we deal with now, isn't it?
While I understand the spirit of your take and can acknowledge some similarities, there are glaring differences in our geographies and form of representation that make ours much different than yours.

Just a small example is how our Senate is built - small population states, which even pre-Trump were bastions of conservatism, have the same number of Senators as California. Rinse and repeat that all over the map, and it's nearly impossible for Democrats to have any sort of majority in the Senate. While this doesn't have anything to do with far right populism, a government that increasingly has become more difficult to function properly, has the effect of eroding peoples' trust in government.

No, I think a lot will suffer under this administration. It may well be that the reality of the next term serves as that jolt for people.

But, until the Democrats can make a sensible case for more progressive policies, they'll always be losing ground.

It's the same with Starmer here. The safety net for people should be about healthcare, education, housing and not about culture wars and moral battles - it doesn't resonate with the majority.

A day oe two to grieve. then start actively working to ensure the mid terms are a whole loy healthier than this one.

"Pay it no mind" as an heroic woman said ... despite the stinging slap given to our values. If you nurse the grievance, you'll lose the focus you're going to need.
I applaud your attitude

She may be right but, honestly, how is the POTUS responsible for a massive outbreak of avian flu that has driven the price of eggs and chicken through the roof? Would such an explanation suffice for voters? The answer is clearly no.

She talked about price gouging. She talked about doing what is possible to cut costs for everyday items, including prescription drugs. Didn't matter. The rage machine was gonna rage and voted for the guy who flat out told them he's going to increase those costs and his czar of government cost-cutting told everyone who doesn't make high six-figures they would have to go through pain.
Two years ago the price of eggs and chicken went up around 250% here, pretty soon the government announced it was going to treat any company artificially using crisis to profiteer. Within days the price dropped to about 125% of it's original price right across the board. Funnily enough the price from local markets never got super hiked (small independant owned farms etc)

I'm guessing the exact same thing is happening there with an excuse to price gouge being used.
