Especially given that the UK and US are culturally very close. Far right populism is a thing we deal with now, isn't it?

You can have empathy and still acknowledge that somebody living it will know more than you do. Maybe it was too far for them to say 'None' but passions are running high.

I can't speak for the person you were responding to but that is how I saw the interaction. You saying 'I know', the other person saying 'You really don't the half of it' and then you saying back 'Yes, I do, I know all of it'.

I agree with you, we come from a similar culture but I have compared things about the UK with my American wife and more often, with examples, I have had my thought process altered to believe that it really is not the same level.

I wonder how history will look upon Biden’s decision to hold on so long before announcing his intention not to seek a second term. In my opinion, in so doing he prevented the Democratic voter base from exercising their right within the process of a party primary.

To be given the party nomination is quite a different thing than earning it through the primaries. I wonder if this, in part, led to a lack of focus and consistent messaging from the Harris campaign.

Maybe those types of things are more easily built up during a contested primary?

That was certainly a part of it, as was putting Harris is a dark room with nothing to do for three years. IIRC most of the people on here pointed out back in 2020 that he was at high risk of being a one term president but sadly the Democrat leadership are not as savvy as GOT.

She may be right but, honestly, how is the POTUS responsible for a massive outbreak of avian flu that has driven the price of eggs and chicken through the roof? Would such an explanation suffice for voters? The answer is clearly no.

She talked about price gouging. She talked about doing what is possible to cut costs for everyday items, including prescription drugs. Didn't matter. The rage machine was gonna rage and voted for the guy who flat out told them he's going to increase those costs and his czar of government cost-cutting told everyone who doesn't make high six-figures they would have to go through pain.

Btw when the cost of chicken and eggs increased due to avian flu I'm guessing the cost of the feed they used didn't drop substantially on the markets at a proportional level which should happen in a supply demand model if the price increase was legitimate.

I'm guessing the price went up almost the same proportionally in truth.

I really don’t know what a good candidate looks like tbh, basically everyone is bad win or lose apparently. It’s like Barack Obama was a good candidate and everyone who isn’t that sucks.

To me the party is broken. No one short of an Obama level politician could fix this.

Whats funny, is the more they have attacked him, the more slurs and allegations they have thrown at him, bogus convictions, impeachments, court cases, etc, the name calling, Nazi, racist, fascist, idiot, etc. The assassination attempts. All they did was hurt themselves and their own chances.

All she and her party did from day 1, was attack and insult him and his supporters. "Well, Donald Trump..." was her answer to every question she was asked.

And now, despite all of the things he has been called and accused of, to a popular majority of people, he was STILL a better choice than Kamala Harris.

Thats how bad she was.

I mean they fiddled the primaries to give it to Clinton over Bernie originally so they're just reaping what they sow.

I think they got very lucky with Biden winning in 2020. The thought of trump in charge of the pandemic terrified everyone with the utter nonsense he was coming out with.

They need a serious look at themselves because the entire democratic party is a mess right now of centric policies with a few minor concessions to allow them to still claim to represent any of the left in the US.
