Hold your political leaders accountable.

Organize. Tell them that what is taking place is unacceptable. Tell them that both/all of your political parties are equally guilty of criminal malpractice of international relations. Tell them that if they don't straighten up and fly right, you'll vote them all out and replace them with competent technicians. It's too late to save the people of Ukraine. It's not too late to save everyone else.

It's the only way. Our governments are complacent because we, the people are complacent. What you are witnessing is the price of complacency. If we put a fire to their feet, they'll get off their duffs.

The average Tory middle Englander attitude is probably something like:
"it's terrible what's happening but we haven't got room for them here"

"how many countries do they have to get through to get here. They should be happy to stay in one of those."

It's disgraceful. The government is giving the oligarchs more assistance in moving their wealth before sanctions kick in than families being bombed out of their homes.

The argument I see is the same as for any other refugee: "they're already in France, which is a "safe" country, why do they want to come here?". The very fact that people are coming here because they have relatives here escapes the empty-headed knobs.

Also, as humans we want the best for ourselves and our families hence people will travel quite lengthy distances for the best opportunities.

I see it as a compliment that people want to come to the United Kingdom.

To be honest, I suspect the majority are either moving to be safe, ie moving to Poland or other neighbouring countries, or moving to be with family. I know speaking with the family in Czech, they wouldn't want to come here if it wasn't for us.

We had a collection at work for Ukraine (medical supplies and food) and it was heartening to see so many people pitch in

I hope they all made it to the intended people and it helped them in some small way

The conversation is a Russian in the convoy calling his boss, he says (more or less):-

“6th Battalion is almost lost”

boss “what?”

“They where waiting for us, our general is lost, I cannot count our losses, they use tanks and artillery, Bayractars are in the sky”

I honestly don't think the public opinion is there to go and fight. Personally be conscripted and go. It certainly isn't there for me.

I understand the sentiment, but every death of a young Russian is also a tragedy. I doubt many of them want anything to do with what’s happening and just want to be at home with their families.
