Confused me as well.

Earlier in the week the US were really in favour of Poland sending Ukraine their planes, but that seems to have changed. I don't understand what the US want Poland to do because no matter what the planes are going to have to be flown out of a NATO country.

Or to use another example - we've all been told how our sanctions are wrecking the Russian economy, how soon he won't be able to pay his soldiers or anyone else and they'll rise up against him. Has anyone seen any actual evidence of that? Of empty shelves in stores? Of angry mobs on the street? Our only evidence is the rouble's value against the dollar, which is essentially pointless given the trading has mostly been cut off and they are getting plenty of dollars for energy sales anyway.

For monthly stuff that might only hit at March end but that is a hell of a blow.

Similarly the job losses - Ikea who closed on Thursday was 15k alone. People will have severance/back pay presumably but finding an immediate replacement of income won’t be easy, even domestic companies will be in “wait and see” mode.

There will be some supplies in warehouses but there have already been worldwide supply shortages due to Covid and general logistical snarls that have run things low.

Price of oil and gas is high but, at least on open markets, not a lot of take-up of Russian sourced and those that have been taking advantage of the discount have backtracked


Most independent media is leaving the country so not sure how many reports of empty shelves we’ll get tbh.

Will China and India find it too good a deal to resist the import/export opportunities , presumably so, but as @edge highlighted there are not insubstantial logistical issues to address in the short term,

Unfortunately not with the nuclear weapons that Putin has to his command. But if it was a fair warfare then I have no doubt that Zalensky and Ukrainians would be successful.

What is so saddening is the number of innocents killed, injured or homeless as a result of this egomaniac.
