Unfortunately I'm pretty sure his family will be in a bunker if he does decide to press a button. We just don't know, perhaps he thinks the world is over populated and eventually a shortage of resources would lead to a humanitarian disaster anyhow? It's impossible to know what they think and what they are fed to be able to guess what they think is justifiable in their own crazy little way.

My friend in Moscow has said that things have deteriorated already. Prices have doubled, they are looking to move to Turkey by April.

Its a powder keg in Russia now with a lot of people now anti-putin and sentiment growing against him from all sides -- but of course fearful.

If there are a lot more casualties then i think that stokes the fire and those families of the victims will be he

Never said they won't affect all russians mate, but they will only really hurt the common man - same story the world over.

I also don't think Putin give two Fuchs about them either, he knew they were coming as we threatened him with then for weeks and he still invaded and declared war - he's taking the piss out of the entire world.

He's looked at Biden and thought "this guy will let me do anything here, hes spineless".

Biden quoted as saying if its not a full scale attack then "ok".

Putin goes in...

I think hes been stunned by the economic response though. Doubt he actually counted on this level of a financial attack.

The key has been some of the European leaders getting behind Ukraine 100% and then a domino effect across countries and industries.

I think the poorer population in Russia wont feel this as hard as the middle class.

The middle class will be absolutely reeling.

It was in the media that Trump was quoted saying he got on with Putin and Xi but told them that if they stepped out of line hed not back down. If they threaten nuclear, so would he.

Also he said that even if they believed him 5% or 10% then it was enough to put doubts in their minds.

Contrast that with Biden refusing to speak with Putin, calling Ukraine 'Iran' and effectively saying nothing would happen if it wasnt a full scale attack.

Nothing happened under Trump. Biden doesnt even know what country hes talking about.

You think Russia wont bear "the ill effect of sanctions"

No not to the extent that people seem to think while also overlooking the ill effect it will have on us also. It's summed up in the thread shared by LL that I was replying to as to why sanctions won't really hurt him.

A quote from it, "The bottom line: The current sanctions decrease the size of the pie, but the pie is still very large and Putin’s ability to distribute it is intact. No other candidate would guarantee a similar distribution to the current players."

Yes overtime sanctions will weaken their economy which will weaken their ability to fund the war machine but that's only until they go and make economic deals with China and others in the East to offset sanction effects on their economy. Even if that weren't the case, as far as we know, (fingers crossed) he's not planning on invading the world or anywhere else. He only needs to keep this military level of spending going for another few weeks to take Ukraine and install his new puppet leader.

Tsar Putin wants to go much further. His Romanov infatuation lends him to this criminal act. I doubt his inner circle has any control of his actions either. I agree his people will endure hardship but will finally be informed of his mass deception and eventually put the clamp down. It won't be before many lives will be lost on both sides. Body counts will have drastic effect on the Russian people beyond the financial hardship. They will then have the ah ha moment that he doesn't give a flip about his people only his empire building.

The thing is though, the sanctions have hit every area of the Russian economy.

From the Central bank down to factory workers. Every single Russian will be suffering.

Many are leaving or have left. There are now plenty against the war and the longer it goes on the less the Putin narrative will be effective.

Aside from China who appear to want to stay out of this...who in the East will make deals with them?

If they were able to cut a deal with China then it puts China in the spotlight when they want to stay in the shadows for now...and also potentially turns india against them.

The war cost wont be sustainable as the days go on...how can he pay his army?

That army btw is partly made up of those paratroopers who are sent in to stop riots.

I think were close to someone taking him out.

Well I hope I'm wrong and you're right mate. My guess is we'll know in the coming weeks what the outcome is.

I agree somewhat except to keep his puppet master in Ukraine he will be involved in guerrilla warfare which will enrage him in three ways the absolute cost, the ineffective military tactics and his miltary hardware. His army isn't built for a long drawn out affair and with covert help they will be in tatters. The cost will be extreme and if his Chinese funding wobbles he will see his dreams shattered. This is why Biden with his powerful advisors are playing the long game. Biden is old and stumbles through his delivery but Wall Street and financial institutions hold the cards.

The Russian's will level cities as they have the hardware but they won't put the Ukraine populace into submission. The next phase they will be the aggressor.

The economic and financial sanctions aren't gonna turn regular Russians against Putin at all. It's just gonna anger them more and make them turn against the West. Read up what Treaty of Versailles after WW1 did to the Germans.
Dont feed the troll.

Coming from a guy who continues who oddly posts very few things related to Everton on the forums, continues to praise Benitez, and has called him "Everton FC Legend" Im not going to take your completely uninformed made up opinion of what the regular Russian thinks.

Especially considering Putin clearly doesnt understand it, nor does most everyone else because they arent allowed to know. I can tell you this, clearly those closest to understanding ordinary Russians think they hate Putin and blame him for sanctions and would probably overthrow him, or else they wouldnt feel the need to brutally silence all of their own citizens. Putin didnt rig fake elections because he had the backing of the Russian people. Putin is shutting down all social media etc because hes terrified that ordinary Russians will begin to discuss and then discover his biggest lie to them: "Its only you who hate Putin"
But you knew that.

Bro, I think you have been viewing some echo chambers online and now feel that Putin is unpopular with the Russians, which couldn't be any further from the truth. The fact is, many Russians believe in Putin and still believe that he is doing Russia a service by bringing back the glory days. Russians are enabling this war. The protests against Ukraine in cities like Paris, Berlin or Prague racked up more protesters than Russia's version of "anti-war" protests.
A BBC report yesterday reported that this girl living in Ukraine was complaining that her mother, who lives in Russia, was not believing anything about the reality of the war and Russia's aggression. In their mind, Russia is the liberator and it's "manifest destiny" for Russia to control Ukraine.
Today, there was some Russian 18 year old gymnastic kid who was competing in the world championships and wore the "Z" necklace to show support for his nation's invasion. The Russian football team's captain came out with a statement barely condemning the war and his biggest complaint was how Russia was being treated internationally. Russians aren't against Putin, maybe the young generations living in Moscow/SPB that browse on Reddit but that's not enough to make a regime change.

Russia lived through the late 90s and through the struggles of USSR, what makes you believe that these sanctions will somehow induce a revolution?

So not only have you never been to China...but now we learn that you havent been to Russia either.

Again, which country are you from?

Their economy has already been pushed back a couple of years at least.

Opening the stockmarket anytime soon would be comical.

Doesnt sound like youve been to China.

Clueless.
Never engage with @emir Everything he does is pure wummery.

Russia is being fed a controlled narrative (we all are), but there's a sizeable section who can still access western media, and over the coming days it there will be a big wake up there. Let's hope they find a way to stop Putin's madness.

I'm not denying that he's obviously not thinking rationally nor am I saying there is no risk. However, I do feel as if the risk is being somewhat over inflated.

When the forces start undertaking more of the dreaded CBRN training, I'll start to worry.

Russian convoys continue to me mauled.
