The move by Mastercard and Visa appears absolutely massive to me (albeit I have zero banking knowledge).

If they pulled out of the UK, the country would literally grind to a halt.

I’ve never had a debit or credit card issued from any company that wasn’t Visa or Mastercard.

Apple pay and google play had already stopped working too along with Paypal.



Putin wanted to go back to the golden era of USSR well at least he has the financial services part of it restored.

I know it is better than waging physical war, as the tragic scenes from multiple war zones attest, but many ordinary Russians lives will be devastated through no fault of their own and probably wouldn’t have supported if they had the free choice.

Even without the bank sanctions the number of job losses for ordinary citizens are mounting along with declining income for property owners without tenants.

With the companies yesterday they will still be paying store staff wages.

However there are many other companies not at the top luxury level who are closing stores and laying off staff.

Not to mention all the other jobs that are removed now that factories are closing and shipping routes are closed/blocked.

Edit: Just read the fine print… Cards issued in Russia will still work in Russia but it’s their central bank that will have to do the donkey work with regards to processing.

How can their hobbled central bank handle any processing? That may be 'donkey work' but in reality this isnt something which can be done overnight.

My estimate was for tomorrow (Monday) the bite in the economy to be seen and felt by the Russian people.

I had expected there to be more protests but my thinking was that walking through Moscow and seeing big brands shuttered would shock the public.

In addition, payment and transaction routes cut off, large numbers of job losses throughout all areas of logistics and the casualties building up in Ukraine.

Surprised weve not heard more about runs on the banks.

Tomorrow I think Russians will have their eyes opened.

The financial collapse of Russia will be devastating. Sadly the populace that were lied too will be the ones burdened. I am surprised at the corporate response lining up. This in itself will be felt right away. Funny wasn't it Putin saying they would destroy the western world without firing a shot. Obviously due to his riches in energy and Germany and Italy's need for it. This is why they hesitated at first. I am sure they now have vindication of Putin's mental state and have come to the conclusion he will only escalate the conflict thru false flags.

Like I said earlier with Japan now on board. Checkmate. China will eventually fizzle out knowing full well to keep their stealing of western technology and needing our purchasing power. They will have to do what they do best benefit themselves.

NATO all coming together united has been a total shock to most I'm sure and with murmurings of Finish and Swedish inclusions along with Ex-Soviet satellites will bring Putin to a boiling point.

Only love and adoration to the people of Ukraine and their total sacrifice. We salute you and can learn many life lessons from your fight.
