It’s called the Law. The U.K. has laws that it must follow and they are more onerous than those of other countries, where we insist upon a higher level of proof. Ask Lord Pannick ……
Apparently our laws are the reason there's so much dodgy money over here. Lax on the policing and vetting side, very tight on the protection for the monied dodgy person. So we're ironically robust, yet bent.

Gotta love the UK, we don't do things by halfs

They did hesitate a bit true but when they decided they fully committed to the non oil/gas ones and implemented swiftly

I appreciate that, but it was the initial hesitation from the West that gave Putin the confidence to give it a go. An earlier and stronger response could have stopped all this. Unfortunately once started it’s hard to back down…..

I don’t think it could have as I doubt Putin would have believed the West would have followed through and the sanctions we’d have been able to agree to would have looked pretty weak in any case - there would never have been agreement for the Swift banking sanctions for instance.

*Adopts David Attenborough voice*

And if you watch closely here in the dense vegetation, you can see the Tory about to finally turn on his own, and admit that Boris has been a very poor leader

And who dragged their feet over SWIFT…..yep you guessed it folks, Germany…..

I know I keep having a go at them, but Merkel did nothing but play into their hands all the time she was in office. It was she who pushed the U.K. to a Vote of Leave, she who initiated a mass immigration across the whole of Europe, she who closed her nuclear power stations and she who ignored everyone and help build Nord Stream2. Of course previously being from East Germany under Soviet control and working for them had nothing to do with it……

Wasn’t just Germany though, iirc Italy none to keen either.

And UK was perfectly at liberty to implement their own sanctions in advance, or at least announce them as according to you they knew it would take time to implement anyway because of “checks and balances” and yet never did. So taking pot shots at other country’s responses and none at your own just seems incredibly petty atm.

I’d wager that there is plenty of dirt soon to be dished up on the extent of malign Russian influence on UK politics (and specific politicians)

Not really. Even the USA was exasperated at Germany (and Italy) for dragging their feet, and Biden even said so in a gentle form of words. The west wanted an agreed response, not some half arsed some in some out statement. Boris did his bit to cajole the European waverers. The first pot shot you referred to was my one of Germany supplying crap arms to Ukraine, and as I posted this was factual. It even came after the U.K. provided 2000 anti tank NLAWS to take out the Russian tanks and Armoured vehicles and then Germany offered some Helmets…probably ones with spikes on top….
