I think it's time to start coldly considering the possibility that Putin is not in Ukraine to conquer it. He may be there to make limited terriorial gains in the east, and raze its major cities otherwise.

Reports out of Kharkiv and Mariupol seem to support this. It looks like Kyiv is next.

Mariupol is important because they want to create land bridge between Crimea and Russia, they are in control of entire Sea of Azov coast according to reports and Mariupol is last bastion and completely encircled.
Also looks like pro-Nazi Azov battalion is in Mariupol.

Media is very much focused on Kyiv and Kharkiv, but Russians advancing on Southern front toward Odessa in the west and Mariupol east. Kherson has fallen last night too.

The other reason to grab everything from Kherson eastward is to strangle the Dnieper and the Sea of Azov.

This wanton destruction of buildings and infrastructure just makes me angry.
I just can't see the point of it
is there any military advantage in destroying a city before occupying it.
